It was more that the likes of Kincardine...drink the place out of business.

Haud the fuckin bus here, Boab.  I enjoy an occasional refreshment but the drinks cupboard in Kinky Heights is well stocked and open to guests and visitors

I'm currently in the middle of France staying in a hotel that's charging €39 for the dinner buffet. A little bit expensive until I noticed they've included all wine and beer in the buffet, as much as you can scoop.

This would never make money in Scotland.

Not quite the same but a few years ago we were staying at a hotel in Ullapool.  They had an unmanned bar up the top overlooking the water ( an honesty bar I think it's called ) Lager on tap, bottles, spirits , wine , mixers the lot. They had a wee book to look up the price and a drawer to put the money in.

You put the money in of course, the shame of abusing that trust would be too much but I remember thinking that this would NEVER work in Glasgow, or most places.

The Highlands are amazing. You don't have to drive very far out of Inverness to encounter signs by the roadside proclaiming Fresh, free range eggs for sale - invariably you would find a hut with a notice displaying the price, inviting you to help yourself and leave cash in the box. Golf courses, such as Carrbridge and Invergordon were often unmanned but again you would find a notice indicating the price for a round and requesting you to place the appropriate remittance in an honesty box.

As you say it would be hard to imagine many other parts of the Scotland, or anywhere in the UK for that matter, where that kind of trust could be offered without fear of abuse.

Over in Jersey a few years back, there were loads of unmanned stalls selling various fresh produce; bread, milk, eggs, honey and jams etc. Money tin there to take change if you were using notes. My thinking at the time was that it would be robbed blind back home.

The Potting Shed Tea Room near Aviemore is magnificent.

Same here in Japan with all the vending machines that even sell alcohol. Back home they'd be dragged off in the back of a van. It's nice that there's a lack of scumbags around here.

There was an honesty bar at one of the Braids golf courses in Edinburgh. Think it closed after the pool table left the premises in less than honest circumstances.

That reminds me of a story I heard years ago about Andy Cameron who was doing a gig at some Irish club in Kelty or Lochgelly. On arriving at the club he was told that it had been broken into during the night and the cigarette machine had been stolen.

When he went on the stage he couldn't help but notice a large crucifix on the wall at the opposite end of the hall. "Oh, I see you managed to catch the bloke who stole the fag machine" says Andy.

Strangely his joke didn't go down very well with the audience.

Just watching an old film on the Talking Pictures channel. The policeman on it want to question a man that has been seen acting in an "effeminate" manner:lol:

would folks get away with that attitude nowadays?

There's still folks with that kind of attitude, but they are a dying breed.

Everton just donated £200,000 towards a 5 year old who's battling cancer and needs serve treatment.

Amazing effort.

Not the first time they've donated money when I was down at their game with Carlisle they donated all gate receipts to the flood fund.
