Saw top Edinburgh chef Tom Kitchin and his family going into a pub/restaurant type place the other day. Made a little mental note that if it was a decent enough place for him to eat then it might be worth a visit. Just found out that he owns the friggin place.

Scran and Scallie?

Was just about to ask. Went on Sunday and it was excellent, although fairly pricey for what is essentially good pub food.

Did you book in advance or can you just walk in there? I have always fancied it but usually go to the Raeburn or Hectors when I’m down that way.

It’s Tom Kitchens wife who runs it, not Tom himself.

Booked in advance. I would say try it out, the food is good, but we paid £80 for a main course each, sharing a dessert and a couple of drinks, which is steep for a glorified pub.

Yeah it is steep, nothing compared to Kitchins own restaurant though. I’ll try it out in the summer time I think!

I plan to go to The Kitchen at some point soon, as I think it would justify the price with the quality!

The Kitchen is absolutely outstanding. You'll love it.
