Sounded solid enough, and getting to hear Ryder swear his way through 24HPP was a joy. Missus has pulled the pregnancy card and can't be fucked going, and the folk over here I would generally go to gigs with have all said no. Hasn't sold out either so not much of a market for punting it on. On that note, whats the general thoughts on attending gigs on your lonesome? Only ever done it at festivals when there was a clash and folk wanted to see different bands at the same time. Will be a first for me at a gig on my own. Your plan sounds quite good, though I'll need to see who the support act are before I decide just when to show up. My pals aren't hugely into music generally, and those that are have fled far and wide as life has taken hold - marriages, kids, careers etc etc. So nights out can take a good bit of planning these days and in our group that seldom involves music. 2. I like to travel to see a band, can't beat an overnight trip somewhere new with a gig to anchor your night to. Great with a pal in tow, but understandably it can be hard to get them to come along if they're not that interested in the band - money, time off work and so on. So to me it's often a case of just book it up and then see if anybody wants to join me.This weekend I went to one gig with a pal and one gig without, and both nights were absolutely fine by me, I'm very happy with my own company.The fact is that once you're there, nobody gives a toss who you came with, so the only social awkwardness is within you, and you can just get over that with the right mindset. 9 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think it is something I will maybe have to start doing, in part for some of the reasons you mention. Most of the guys who listen to the stuff I am into are all back home in Scotland, and generally over here the folk I socialise with have very different tastes in music and they don't tend to be as open to going to a random gig as people in the UK. I will generally take a ticket for anything that is going if someone has a spare, even if I'm not a huge fan of the music. I quite like going to different venues and seeing what the atmosphere is like at different events, but that doesn't seem to be something that many people are open to here. Yoss Posted October 28, 2019 Share Posted October 28, 2019 I'm in much the same place - I generally buy two tickets to any gig I fancy on the basis that there'll probably be someone I can drag along. But it hasn't always happened for one reason and another (yeah, people have families and stuff - but chief among the reasons is probably the obscure / barely listenable nature of the music I've been dragging them along to). So I've started getting used to the idea of being there myself sometimes and it's been fine. I'm less likely to go along in time for the support, unless it's someone I'm looking forward to seeing in their own right, but it's certainly never lessened my enjoyment of the music itself. 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sound was fucked the first 4/5 songs but that apart I will have no qualms about doing the same again in future. Chester was in incredible voice and the band have never sounded better. Similarly, seeing Frightened Rabbit at the Academy last year for the Midnight Organ Fight ten year anniversary will always be my most cherished gig memory. I originally missed out on tickets and was going to leave it, then u-turned and paid a fortune on Viagogo, since ten year anniversaries only happen once. I'd seen them before and I got to see Scott one more time afterwards with Mastersystem, but to be there for what turned out to be my favourite band's last ever gig, to see my favourite album of all time played in full, was such a privilege. I only wish I had eschewed the usual routine of getting pished and missing the odd bit to go to the bathroom and instead really drunk it all in and savoured the moment. Before Scott died I only really bothered to go to a handful of gigs a year, to see bands whose every word I could sing back to them. These days I try to make a concerted effort to go to see anyone I enjoy listening to, regardless of my familiarity with their entire discography, even if no one wants to come with me or it means travelling a little. Similar to yourself, after The Libertines last night I have Lewis Capaldi on Friday, Patent Ochsner(Sort of a Swiss version of the Proclaimers) on Saturday and then Glenn Hansard next week at some point. Nothing in gig diary for 2020 until King Creosote in March, if I survive another winter.Hoping for 2020 that Mogwai do a run of shows for their 25th anniversary, much like the 2015 shows.
