Gigs

I was there tonight and they were top notch as always! Managed to power through 30-odd songs with the usual hilarity in between. The support band - Patent Pending - were pretty good too.

It was a great send off for one of the bands that introduced me to music. I hope they continue to put out music even if they don't tour, I think they said they were doing something along those lines.

They were outstanding on Tuesday. I've seen them before but they were nowhere near as good as that. You could tell they were putting their all into making it a special performance. I was really impressed with Patent Pending, I've heard of them but never listened to them but they provided good entertainment and good music. You could tell why Bowling For Soup brought them along for their Farewell Tour. I might actually go see them in April at King Tuts.

They are continuing to make music. Jaret released a video on YouTube earlier this year basically saying "it's not the end but goodbye" where he essentially let everyone know why they wouldn't be touring with no bullshit. He just said it's not financially viable anymore and they're all kicking on a bit and have families however they will continue as a band and produce music.

In the last week or so I've been to Weller at the Barra's, Jagwar Ma at King Tuts, Lloyd Cole at the Oran Mor.

Weller was outstanding tho the sound quality was poor at points, his vocal mix on the keyboard was fucked.

Jagwar Ma, went with the GF, the album's ok. The gig was boring as hell, probably would have enjoyed it if I was pushed or oot ma banger. But I don't drink anymore.

Lloyd Cole tonight was outstanding. Solo set, on for 2 hours 20 with a 10 minute break.

Next up: arctic monkeys at the hydro, pixies at the Barra's, Ocean colour scene at the Barra's and the waterboys at the Barra's.

The girlfriends got QOTSA and placebo.

Then it's Lloyd Cole with full band at the ABC in January.

Seen Deaf Havana on Sunday night, they were unreal! I'll definitely be seeing them again next time they tour. Charlie Simpson was also quality and his voice is very suited to music he's now playing. The Big Sixes though are genuinely the worst band I've ever heard, they're awful in every way.

Peter Gabriel at They Hydro tonight. 25th anniversary of the tour for So. I saw that tour at the time back in 1987, which is 26 years ago. Still, really looking forward to this one as he's magic in concert. Plus, first visit to the new venue. :)

Ditto - can't wait.

Not long in from the gig. Firstly, the Hydro is absolutely brilliant, far bigger than I imagined.

As for the show, it felt like I was watching a bad pop video any time I looked the screens, which was a lot considering I was right at the back. Too arty farty for me, but I suppose I should have expected it. Gabriel was great though.
