How are they such an abhorrently performing club? Mental.

its such an outlying club with regard to major trophies, considering the size of the city, the support they undoubtedly have etc , have they just been unlucky with draws or just badly run?

Today is 50 years since their last league cup win. Anyone legally allowed in a pub to drink that day should now be retired!

In the 50 years since alongside Rangers and Celtic multiple times  , Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hibs, Raith Rovers, Livingston, Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Ross County and St Johnstone have all won the league cup at least once and in the scottish along with the old firm , Aberdeen , St Mirren, Motherwell, Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Hearts, St Johnstone, Inverness CT and even Hibs have won the Scottish cup at least once in that time.

There is no reason why Dundee FC cannot win one of the domestic cups, maybe like Hibs in the Scottish their time will come one day.

While it is definitely down mostly to our own shortcomings, our luck in this tournament is truly abhorrent, even going back to the 1925 cup final - our lead was cut late on by a Celtic player grabbing hold of the ball with both feet and fucking frontflipping over the goalkeeper to score.

We can all agree luck is a big factor in the path any team takes to the trophy, and it's been nearly non-existent for us as far back as I can remember. The one time it did happen was 2006, getting Stranraer, Airdrie, Hamilton and Gretna, but the one time we got a series of fortunate draws it was our literal worst team ever fielded which went up against them, hence the absolute drubbing by third-tier Gretna. Never had fortune like that since, and Killie away does not shape up to be helping change that narrative much.

This'll be the year though!

They've only reached 4 finals since winning it 114yrs ago (1925, 1952, 1964, 2003). Indeed only reached League Cup final twice since last winning it (1980, 1995).

They haven't made either SF in almost 20yrs now.

St Mirren have only reached 6 finals (all since Dundee won the cup), but have managed to win 3 of them. (One against Dundee United which might mollify Dees fans somewhat.)

The queens entire life.

Surprisingly, that's actually true given that we weren't formed until 1919 ... oh, wait a minute, you were thinking of a certain ex monarch rather than "The Queens", aye? 😎

Jim Duffy is responsible for 33.34% of those final appearances.

It's bittersweet- apparently we were the better team in the semi v United but threw away a great opportunity to get to the final- we had a good record v a good Saints team that season, winning three of our four league games.

I was at that match.

Dundee led at half-time, but it was a finely balanced game.

That was my worst Dundee game ever, the hope that kills you.

Dundee will have opened their new stadium at Cambusd... actually the jury should probably stay out on that one.

Nah, we'll never open it there, wherever the f**k Cambusd is.
