E-Chat Quick Question Thread

I often use my laptop to watch plex or nfl and run an hdmi into the telly. What's annoying is the TV sometimes takes up to 10 mins to mirror the laptop screen. You plug in the hdmi and the hdmi2 is selected but it flashes a blue 'no signal' screen before finally mirroring.

Is there a setting I need to change or just live with it?

Is there a keyboard command for your laptop to mirror the screen?

Usually like 'FN + F12' or something.

I did a full defrag of my hard drive last night and now the available space has dropped from 80GB to 30GB which is kind of the opposite of what I expected. Any advice?

Defragmentation shouldn't increase or decrease storage. It simply rearranges where files are stored to allow the CPU to access the information quicker and more efficiently. This seems strange.

It went back to normal as soon as I deleted a video the following day. Cheers for the reply though.

Thats not technically true. It cant increase the physical storage available but it can, and often does, increase the storage the OS sees as available. As it rearranges the files it can free up areas of the disc that werent available before.

Thanks for going more in depth!

I guess I was more trying to point out that defrag should not in any way reduce the storage available.
