What's the script with that? Some of those look amazing. Indy bottled dalmore 13 yo at 60 sheets... what's the catch?

No catch, but they go like the proverbial off a shovel. He was apologising for having to charge so much for the Dalmore compared to his usual pricing.

Yeah. That does look like too good to be true stuff.

Ok worked it out now. It's private casks so whilst most Indy bottlers will select casks this could really be of any quality. For the price I would say it's worth a punt though.

They are a cask storage service, buy/sell and bottle casks. The Dalmore was vatted from 4 oloroso octaves.

I've not had a bad one yet, tried 7 different bottles so far. I ordered the Dalmore and Aultmore yesterday, time will tell if it keeps up that record.

Another decent bottler is Chorlton Whisky. He's got a couple of releases coming soon. Charges about a tenner more than Whisky Broker, and they tend to go fast as well, especially any Islay releases.

Strangely I just cracked in to this and went hunting for this thread. I got it off another website as seen it was only 70 odd quid for a 22 old cask strength but must admit its quite rough for its age. Never been on that website but will definitely be snooping on it as looks very decent value. Bit more of a risk compared to SMWS would say but a fair bit cheaper and dont need a membership.

SMWS can be hit or miss as well, to be fair. The previous 2 outruns haven't been that interesting but yesterdays was awesome., there was 6 or 7 new bottles that looked brilliant.

I bought what I thought would not be first choice for many but they were sold out in a couple of minutes. Crazy. It is an 11 year old  from the Dailuaine Distillery.

Treated myself to a bottle of Lagavulin 16 over the weekend with some birthday money.  So, so good.

Also, do the Costcutters in the Central Belt also have a fantastic selection of malts?  The ones in Dyce, Huntly and Dufftown are all essentially specialist whisky shops with a convenience store at the back.  £57 for the Lagavulin from the Huntly Costcutter was as cheap as I’ve seen anywhere .

Whit?! That's a lot dearer than it was a year or 2 ago. Could get one for £45 last I checked. Today certainly they're about 50 on Amazon and YMMV if you think it's worth that.

Whisky prices are going a wee bit mental these days. Not unusual to see <10year old distillery releases and indies getting up near the £100 mark. Not for me unless I have a real interest in it or know it's likely to be a belter.

Agreed on all fronts. Loads of stuff touching a hundred pounds that is just pretty much run of the mill.

Wasn't a big fan of the Berry Bros. stuff bottle on first tasting - probably because of the dry finish - but it's been growing on me in more recent visits. I think it's certainly pushed me towards PX or at least Oloroso finish options but I don't expect there to much if anything from those in the similar price category.

Might keep the two month repeat subscription going for now.

Was about to recommend you a few in the same price range but you're actually right. Staple picks around the £30 mark just don't seem to exist any more.

Glenfarclas 10 would be alright around that mark, or for a sherry cask on steriods Glenlivet Nadurra sherry edition is a little bit dearer, but just as good value for money since most will drink that with some water to cool it down.

It would mean spending a wee bit more, but well worth it in my opinion:

Glendronach 12 or Benriach 12 Sherry Wood from Loch Fyne whisky, both on offer at £39.99 with free shipping.

I didn't say it was. You and others suggested it whilst raving about Deanston generally. Felt it was worth a bash. Not tried it yet. My boys are coming to visit this weekend so we'll try it together and report the findings.

My infinity bottle, first one.

2/5 of bottle Glenlivet 12 year old

1/4 of Balvennie 10 year old Founders Reserve (43% version)

Big dollop Oban distillers edition

Wee dollop Deanston (supermarket stuff)

splash of Ian MacLeoad's 'as we get it' Islay single malt

It's turned out quite nice. Look forward to adding to it.
