JamieStevenson
Pitch Perfect 2. 6/10 for this one, not as good as the first but still an enjoyable film nonetheless.
JamieStevenson
Beasts of No Nation. A glorious addition to Idris Elba's career portfolio. Basically runs about with a large group of child soldiers, lots of violence. A really brilliantly shot film for such a low budget. Definitely recommend this one. 8.5/10 imo!
BFTD
Reincarnation - criminally boring film about an actress who's been cast in a film about a hotel massacre decades prior, and finds herself believing that she's the reincarnation of the slain girl that she's been cast to play. The plot floats around not doing much, the characters are all two-dimensional and uninteresting, and even the presence of supernatural zombies in the final act can't spice things up. To make things worse, the film's big twist has been used a bunch of times before in movies like Dead Again, and is therefore obvious right from the start. I guess it did have a vaguely creepy doll in it, if that's your thing.
Bearwithme
John Wick. Good one for those who would never tire of watching Keanu Reeves shooting people. They killed his puppy you know! For folk who love a shoot-em-up, maybe 8/10. Others will give it zip.

Waal
Ghost Little known gem starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. I'd never seen it before having dismissed it as soppy pish. I liked it. 7/10
mrcat1990
Suffragette - 7/10 Quite surprised this isn't a topic that has been picked up for film before. Very well acted, paced well and well written. However at times tries using certain plot points to really tug at your heartstrings when it's already done that fine enough. Some very powerful scenes and moving all the same.

Great cast and performances.
JamieStevenson
Crimson Peak Such a talented cast putting on a remarkable performance. Thought it would be scary but it really wasn't at all, which is fine tbh. From start to finish it was visually stunning, had a great balance of emotion and violence. Wondered a couple of times where the plot was heading but it held together quite nicely. The ending was beautiful and probably one of the better film endings I've seen recently. Certainly not a horror as such but a thrilling watch nonetheless. I felt the film was of good length, didn't go on too long or anything like that. Tbh I was engrossed by it all that the time just flew by. Solid offering and a worthy 8/10. Just as an aside, I like Charlie Hunnam and it's quite a shame that's he's stuck with that one horrible accent for every character he'll play in his career .
J_Stewart
The Martian Went to see it yesterday and I honestly think it might be one of the best films I've seen. Tremendous from start to finish. For what the subject matter was, there was a great amount of humour to it, but it was (the Damon parts in particular) a sort of wry, resigned, "laugh or cry" humour and so not only didn't feel out of place, but also helped to progress the story as you could see how he continued to stay positive and motivate himself to survive. Damon's performance was outstanding (likely oscar winning), and the supporting cast all did their jobs really well. The visuals were also incredible. Came out of the cinema with a huge smile on my face, as did the missus. Would like to see it again to confirm, but I think it might be a masterpiece and the finest "lone man surviving" film I've ever seen. 10/10.

They were filmed in Jordan (I'm sure other films based on Mars have been filmed on there before).
Kyle
The Lobster - 7/10 An even stranger film than I expected. Colin Farrell is whisked off to a retreat for singles where they have 40 days to find a partner or will be turned into an animal of their choosing. Very leftfield, quirky and took a bit to get used to the cold dialogue which felt forced at points. Also quite dark at points but some excellent grim humour thrown in. Doubt I'll see anything like it for a while but all in all a good film, if not a little too long. I'd agree with this - some real shocking moments to go along with some pretty dry, dark comedy. The dialogue reminded me of a Wes Anderson movie. A few folk walked out of the showing I was at - I'm not surprised as I'm not sure it's for everyone - but I enjoyed it.
Ira Gaines
Crimson Peak The tagline on the poster in the cinema was "Be Aware" and I wish I took it's advice. Not impressed at all. The performances were good at least, apart from Charlie Hunnam, who can f**k off. Visually good with the climatic scenes in particular looking great. Can't say much more positive things though. 3/10
ScotlandGer
The Homesman - 9/10 Firstly, I'm a big fan of Westerns and, secondly, I'm a sap for the type of films with dem feels. This is a tough Western with dem feels (but it might be a bit slow if you're not that into Westerns). This film fell into place after the first half-hour whereby, initially, I wasn't too sure (you need to stick with it). But, this is brilliant. Tasked with escorting a group of ill women back East, Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee-Jones are stuck to facing a pretty grim reality on their journey. There's a great wee snipe at contemporary American capitalism / individualism which is good fun. But, otherwise it's a rewarding, if tough, watch.
The Grass Is Greener.
Beasts Of No Nation Idris Elba in good form here, I'll pretty much give anything with him in it a go and wasn't disappointed. Thought the main child actor was good as well. 8/10 It's on Netflix if anyone fancys it.
Gianfranco
Gave Mercury Rising a watch last night. I like the majority of Bruce Willis films and the child actor played the autistic kid very well. Really enjoyable stuff 7/10
BFTD
The Call - Halle Berry's 911 operator gets personally involved in a call made by a girl kidnapped by the world's worst serial killer. Seriously, this guy acts like he gives zero fucks about being caught, and gives his captor every possible chance to escape. Still, an entertaining enough thriller from Brad "Session 9, The Machinist" Anderson, who can usually be relied upon for a decent bit of escapism. Demonic - haunted house, investigative ghost hunters, cameras positioned all over the house, blah blah. There's also a guy whose mother has a tie to the house, and wants to find out more. The film flirts with found-footage, but there's not a lot of it. The film has a similar feel to the original Saw for some reason, only without the gore and torture, with the police trying to work out what's been going down after everybody's already dead. Very slightly above average, I suppose, but the end "twist" is very obvious and nothing you won't have seen many times before. Still, I've seen a lot worse in the genre lately

I'm guessing people walked out at the Suicide or dog death scene? I was one of the few laughing when Farrell's character was talking about how he's annoyed his sleep would be ruined by the sounds of a dying women.

The dog death scene in particular seemed to upset a few people. Some walked out, a few audible gasps.
