What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Theory of Everything 6/10

Let me start by saying that the performance of Eddie Redmayne is astonishing - 10/10. His physical deterioration is almost painful to watch at times.

The film itself is just ok. The pacing is iffy and the supporting characters such as extended family or the secondary themes such as infidelity are given lip service rather than being explored properly. (The extended families assumption that Stephen's 3rd child wasn't his own and the ramifications of this weren't even explored at all).

St Vincent

Bill Murray was very good as a grumpy old neighbour (Vincent) who is befriended by his smart young neighbour. Murray becomes an unlikely friend and mentor to the boy and the film follows there relationship through the death of a loved one, an untimely stroke and a custody battle.

I really enjoyed the film that was well acted by all involved....even Melissa McCarthy.

Spectre

Too long, some utterly ludicrous plot stuff and surprisingly boring action scenes make this potentially very good movie a bit of a chore to get through. Especially at two hours and a half. It's still enjoyable to a point, and the good stuff is REALLY good. It lulls way too much though.

Spectre

This is quite good. It's not my favourite Daniel Craig Bond film - Casino Royale - but it feels like a throwback to "classic" Bond whilst also still keeping the freshness of the Daniel Craig era.

The opening sequence is a step-up from the set-pieces we saw in Skyfall and features a terrific extended tracking shot. The rest of film continues in a fairly impressive vein but it did feel like it tailed off near the end. That said, the final 1/4 doesn't detract from what precedes it (the plot is an improvement on Skyfall but at the same time, it continues the development of James Bond we've seen since the "reboot"). Other than a few minor criticisms/faults, I really enjoyed Spectre. Lea Seydoux is wonderful. The artist formerly known as Batista feels like one of the old Bond henchmen from decades ago. Christoph Waltz is Christoph Waltz, he's understated and quietly menacing. And Daniel Craig continues to make a good case for him being the best Bond of all time.

There's a few throwbacks to the previous Craig films which I really liked. They aren't necessarily big "show stopper" moments but they were amongst my favourite moments of Spectre.

Pixels

Wasn't as bad as I was expecting and had some laugh out loud moments. Thought Peter Dinklage was particularly funny at times. Special effects were pretty cool and was a nice trip down memory lane seeing the likes of Pacman which I enjoyed as a kid. Michelle Monaghan is also sneaky hot!!!!!

Trainwreck

Found this very funny and clever. Some A-List American sportsman cameo's worked well and I found LeBron James very funny. Amy Schumer both wrote and starred in the film. She was very funny as the film followed her life from being a bit of a slag to falling for the also very funny Bill Hader. I'd recommend to all.

Spectre - enjoyable. Have to say it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be but that was probably due to me being overly excited for it. The action sequences are fantastic (love the opening scenes) and the plot is pretty good. Craig was superb and for me is now my favourite Bond as I've been a fan of every film he's done.

7/10.

Paddington

Really funny and incredible cgi bears. So many kids films these days are so much funnier than supposed proper adult comedies. Also, despite the surgical alterations, Nicole Kidman was pretty hot.

9/10

Haven't seen the film, but I agree with every word.

Had Nicole Kidman already gone down the surgery route by the time Dead Calm came out? Popular late night viewing when I was but a young shaver :P
