I'll assume Sheffield United have female employees, host fans events, etc... Now he might have done his time, but would you be comfortable with a convinced raspiest to be around the club? I doubt you'd be happy if a child molester got a job in a company where they have children around the place. Even if he did serve his time

Wouldn't happen due to CRB requirement checks.

Wouldn't he need to be PVG checked (which he'll fail oboviously) to sign as a footballer?

Disclosure doesn't usually say don't employ this person. It's more a heads up to allow employers to make an informed choice. It could be argued that a predominately male environment like football is the best place for him, it also keeps him in the public eye.

It might be a predominately make environment on the park, but off it, that's a different story

Would you like to take your wife or family to an end of season player of the year award with a convinced rapist in the room? Or doing charity work that players do for the club, visiting children's hospitals etc...

I know I wouldn't.

How do you know he'd attend? If he did at least you'd know. How do you police your family activity now, how do you know they won't meet someone unpleasant? And what job should he do?

Put if this way, let's say your wife, girlfriend, daughter came home one day from work and told you her employer is going to hire a rapist once he is released from prison

In all honest, would you just shrug it off and say "at least you know"

He can apply for any job he wants, but your employer had a duty of care towards it's employees and I would think hiring a rapist would naturally cause concern or even alarm some individuals.

Just because he was a footballer doesn't mean he should get special treatment at the potential expense of everyone else within the club

If anyone is looking for a convicted rapist to be given an almost entirely male dominated job to keep them away from women then surely football is the perfect fit?

What I would think is immaterial in that employment process. What if he'd killed another man in a fight or, like the Plymouth keeper, killed kids while drunk driving? Would you be happier your wife worked with him?

I can't help but noticed you never answer my question but yet try to fob it off with another question.

I'll happily answer your question, no I would not be happy for me or any member of my family to work with a killer. And yet again the employer has a duty of care to his staff not to put them in a position where they could be harmed or worse.

I wouldn't be happy but I'm not above the law, so what could I do?

I'm sure if you knew in advance like the Evans case the club if considering signing him when he's let out of prison, you and your fellow employees would be up in arms about it. force the owner to ditch the idea.

Sheffield United in the past have had "family days" and offer a family ticket. It's obviously going to impact the imagine of the club if they signed him and most likely put off fans from attending.

Straight question...why would you not want your wife, girlfriend or daughter to work with a guy convicted of rape?

Paragraph 1, I don't work for an owner. I expect employment law and confidentiality to be adhered to.

Paragraph 2 is a different argument.

"owner" as in the owner of the club.

Once again i refer you to a employer's duty of care.

Slightly o/t but my old man's missus best friend is a judge down in London. She presided over a rape case where by all accounts the accused was a particularly good looking guy.

After the case this female judge says -in private obviously - "I don't know why she complained, he could rape me anytime".

Carry on...

How does that come under a duty of care.....it's not like health & safety......if he's deemed by the Courts "safe" enough to be released then an employer can't have grounds for refusing him employment ob those grounds.
