Then yes, fees(or lack of) would need to be consistent. It would all depend on who's in government in Edinburgh, to be honest. I'd imagine there would be ways round it, such as increasing fees for international students, a cap on the number of EU places, or, if feasible, introducing fees but give Scottish 18 year olds a little reward of say, 36 grand, if they earn a uni place.

Fair enough. I just always wondered because I believe the Scottish Government are sincere about it, but I imagine the universities would be distraught at getting much less cash in, as that's all they're really bothered about. Edinburgh are already the most expensive university in the UK for English, Welsh and NI students.

Renton addressed this point very well: an economy without 'competition' from other highly-educated workers is in fact a dysfunctional economy. By virtually every measure available - wealth, health, crime, happiness - an educated populace is better *for the individual* than one that isn't. This is simply not collectivism, either. There is plenty of scope for individual choice, advancement, and acquisition within such a system.

Unless you're a complete fucking thicko like Mr. Bairn, admittedly.

Yankee doodle went to town....

The universities themselves probably deserve to be shafted, to be fair. Most of the principals and vice-chancellors are pretty much the scum of society.

Yes and yes, thanks for your concern.

Not particularly concerned for you,as you are of me I imagine, just checking as you offered up your "left" background.

How does the separatist thing from fellow socialists/lefties in the UK stand with you?

It sounds like there is no feelng es spirit de corps coming from Scottish separatists and please,i don't believe it's doing the rUK people a favour line.

Quite a few bullshitters on this forum I suspect.

Shouting one thing but completely chained to their mortgage and everything needed to protect it.

Selfish.

Then there's the blatant anti English lot in the separatist movement.

I look forward to seeing them looking upwards to the Union flag flying high over Scotland come Sept 2014,their screwed up bitter faces are going to be a real treat.

Is'nt it the case that some on this forum and plenty in Scotland are just typical phoney Socialists and snobbish Greens, who are quite well off and only worship at the alter of their god,the mortgage.

Bogus, pretending to be into the collective good, but their parents took the Thatcher bribe and therefore signed themselves and probably their children into a life of bullshit and "bettering themselves" at the expence of anything that gets in the way of their god .

Thatchers people,liars.

The Greens, well off, protesting about supermarkets in town and if you can't afford to shop at the local organic traders, then f**k you.

Plenty of liars in Scotland.

Selfish c***s through and through.

This came quite comfortably, did'nt have to try hard.

I'd imagine it would fall into a similar catagory to the current recruitment targets/caps for international students. All depends on how well marketed/known it is to the students in England and Wales. I can't imagine it is in anyone in higher education's interest to make sure that all students in England and Wales that they can get a free education in Scotland. Its something which Northern Irish students can exploit at the moment, but relatively few do, as they simply don't know about it.

There is an element of truth in this, in some cases, but they have their backs against the wall. Universities need money, Principals are required to lead the University to make as much money as possible. Without continuous investment, without improving old facilities and upgrading campuses, simply in terms of estates, a University will fall behind on recruitment.

I can't say that I agree with it in principle, as some of the ways in which things have been done are appalling, but I'd say you're a little unfair on them.

The Better Together campaign always bang on about "what voting Yes will cost you".

Well just ask the guys, down the Bo'ness Road, what backing the Better Together Convenor just cost them?

I'll hazard a guess in the £k's, & quite possibly came very close to putting a lot of them, & their families, out in the street.

Most middle class Scots are not so detached from the rest of society that they believe the slanders about the unemployed. Lacking shares and expensive housing assets, most Scots are only a redundancy away from economic hardship themselves.
