Celtic fans have started a campaign to boycott Rugby Park.

Bless them.

ETA - "BHOYCOTT". Never noticed that earlier

I've never agreed with or went along with boycotting grounds, I think if you are pissed off at certain aspects of your treatment at a ground dont go, but dont go expecting others to do so or pressure them into it.

a slant I take on it is that away fans at CP dont get the best treatment, stuck in a horrible corner of the ground with a crap view and from what I've read on here they dont get the best treatment from stewards so maybe, just maybe if Celtic FC addressed these issues we would have more of a moral highground when taking up problems we encounter away from home.

On the specific Kilmarnock issue I think Killie's statement earlier this week that they are going to cut prices for away fans EXCEPT Celtic is at best naive and at worst exploitive, they are basically saying we are going to milk you guys for a few extra quid because you have a large away support, the Celtic support at Rugby Park has fallen a fair bit the last two or three years while it hasnt at other away grounds so clearly some people refuse now to go here, from what I gather it surrounds ticket prices and this announcement will clearly impact this more and end up costing Killie more than the extra fiver or so per Celtic ticket sold, I know theres been a couple of incidents of seats being broken a couple of times earlier in the decade and arseholes that do that are not wanted following my club but the club will clearly have reimbursed Killie for the repair work so thats not really an issue on that matter.

I personally enjoy going to Killie, its a decent trip and facilities are good, apart from our buses parking a fucking mile away I've never had any problems with it as an away day, I wont personally boycott it, whether I attend the next fixture here will depend on circumstances at the time (work/money etc) but I think many more will cross this fixture off their list now, I can see their reasons why but I do feel if our club improved the matchday experience at CP we would have a stronger position when taking clubs to task on issues like this

Bhoycott

No matter how many stop going to rugby park there will be enough stupid c***s or locals who will still go.

It's only fair that Killie try and recoup some of the costs from all the vandalism/damage etc that Celtic fans cause when they visit anyway.

1 - I actually think that wont be the case in this specific instance, from filling or almost filling two stands as recently as five or so years ago we only had about 3/4 of the one stand filled when I was at the 2-2 draw in August. Whether you like or hate Celtic or agree or disagree with peoples stance on it fact is a lot of guys are refusing to go to Rugby Park and this will I think be even more evident next visit.

2 - While in an ideal world the arseholes responsible for any past damage would fork up for their fuckwittery the fact is Celtic reimburse Killie and other club for damage caused by clowns in the away support, so saying Killie need this extra charge to pay for repairs is, as you fine well know a load of pish????????

What Celtic fans, including yourself, are missing is that when your club comes to town the cost of policing the game goes up substantially.

For matches involving Celtic (and Rangers FWIW), Kilmarnock (and any other club) needs to pay for the police to cover: within the stadium itself; the turnstiles; the area immediately around the stadium; the streets surrounding the locus; local transport hubs i.e. train and bus stations. Given the size of crowds and their reputation for trouble, that can't be done with six or seven officers.

If we look at the 2-2 game earlier in the season, Killie had to pay for police officers from Glasgow to bolster the local force. When every one of these officers has a set cost attached to them, which the club must cover, you can start to understand why ticket costs have to be increased. To put it into context, Kilmarnock have had games this season when we've needed no police officers to attend.

Then we need to look at stewards. Each club has a contract with stewarding companies, and will specify in the build up to any game how many bodies they need. For an average league game, lets say against St Johnstone e.g. the breakdown is something like this...

  • Three stewards at East Stand turnstiles. Three stewards at Frank Beattie stand turnstiles (home). Three stewards at Frank Beattie/Moffat Stand turnstiles (away).
  • Two stewards per stand in prior to kick-off.
  • Two stewards to police players/'VIP' entrances.

So, that's about 15-17 stewards on any given Saturday. When Celtic come to town, that figure is per stand housing Celtic fans.

If Celtic fans had a history of behaving impeccably then this wouldn't be necessary. Alas, having spent my childhood living on Scott Road, and having a mum who still stays there to this day, I can assure you that the policing is often still not enough. You mention the buses being parked "a fucking mile away", so can I ask why your support feels the need to pish in gardens, smash bottles or leave empty ones in gardens, break car windows, key cars etc during your 0.4 mile (7 minute) walk to your bus?

Like a kid who wants pocket money but has been a wee arsehole lately - prove you can be trusted and then we can help you out. Until then, shut your fucking mouth about "Bhoycotts" or clubs "taking liberties" and worry more about you and your supporter's behaviour. There is after all, a reason why even a lot of season ticket holders don't attend games against you lot.

Another one?

Thought they were boycotting after killie abstained from the SPL vote, I remember wee Joe O'semi-colon ranting about it.

Of course people will still go. There are enough of life's losers to attend.

People will still go yes, but the point I make regarding Killie in particular is the numbers going there are dwindling every visit and will probably be drastically reduced even more so next visit

Bloody hell thats a hell of a lot of complex detailed info you have there QLP, did you get it from Tamara? ;)

While I take on board the point about extra police etc the fact is Killie already sell a good few thousand extra tickets for this fixture making a decent swedge from the visiting fans, its a bit rich to then bung on an extra fiver a ticket and say its to cover additional costs. I mean say maximum 30 extra police for this fixture for say 4 hours work...if Killie are charging an extra fiver times say 4000 tickets..... are you seriously trying to tell me the club have to fork out £20,000 for a few hours of police and Stewards while we all know the latter get payed about £6 an hour...the numbers and sums dont add up, the club are basicaly trying to fleece a few grand extra from the fixture.

A moot point around this issue though... why should Kilmarnock or any football club have to pay for coppers to be at train stations or car parks, in the street etc?? Is that not what individuals and clubs themselves pay taxes for. Do the Orange Order pay for the police to supervise their parades in the summer? Do political parties pay for them to attend rallies in city centres?

On your final point, I've been to probably over 20 fixtures at Rugby Park and while I've seen the odd bit of litter being dropped (cans, bottles, food wrappers etc) on the walk to and from the ground I've never once seen peoples gardens being used as toilets, cars being scratched, windows being smashed etc. I suspect you are dropping this in and as its one of the Old Firm people will happily believe it, there are a few nuggets in our away support but ive never once seen peoples gardens, cars, homes being vandalised in the manner you implicate at Rugby Park or anywhere else

That's the Celtic support in general since rangers died though. I don't think there will be a "drastically reduced" crowd at all.

Excluding Pittodrie and Tynecastle where both clubs as is there right have cut our allocation to get more home fans in we still sell most/all our away allocation.

The Dundee clubs, Motherwell, St Johnstone, Partick etc etc all have pretty much a full away Celtic support at these grounds, Kilmarnock dont and the numbers are getting less and less every game there, I go to about 75% of away games and have noticed this, our bus always has at least ten spare tickets every game there which often I have to flog outside the ground so our supporters club arent £200+ out of pocket, we take betwern 30 & 40 tickets each away game except Hearts and Aberdeen for obvious reasons but always struggle to shift the Rugby Park tickets, nowhere else is this an issue

And your point is? Are you saying that clubs should make a similar amount from 500 Accies fans in comparison to say 4000 Celtic fans? If thousands of supporters from any club travel to an away game, the home club is entitled to make money from it. The ticket prices are in place, and nobody is forcing Celtic fans to come along and pay it. Every club in Scotland will more money when Rangers and Celtic come to town, and that's the way it should be. Only an Old Firm fan would say that smaller clubs should lose money they deserve because the away fans can't be trusted to behave. And before a Celtic fan comes across and says "you need oor money to survive" - we don't. If you suddenly vanished then we'd adapt and evolve.

I think I'll stick to what I've seen as a resident in the area over what one guy saw during a seven minute walk to and from a bus. I've mentioned before some of the things that Celtic and Rangers fans get up to in the area before and after games, and I'm sure people that live around Firhill e.g. would attest to the same thing if any of them could afford a working internet connection.

Celtic fans organised a boycott because we abstained from the Rangers vote and then filled two stands on their next visit. Most of the games between the two sides at Rugby Park lately have been midweek, which tends to lower a crowd anyway.
