The All New Occasionally Aussie P+B Quiz League and ☕ Occasional Cup ☕

Recommended Posts

Right. I'm back on terra firma. So to recap... we still need the league play off between G_Man1985 and Blackislekillie (sorry for the confusion... forgot to sort my columns mister). So here's your play-off question...

Last summer, I was lucky enough to visit the Czech town where the first sugar lump was made. They've got a lovely statue (see below) and plaques in various different languages telling you all about it. What I want to know is ....

In what year did this momentous event take place? Answers in a PM please @G_Man1985 and @blackislekillie

And in the cup, Supermik's drunken attempt is in (his own admission - haven't actually marked it yet). Just waiting on WRK to send me his and then we can put 2016 into stasis.

7/10 for the last quiz of the year.

Credit to Cardi for keeping this going and for Edmund's hard work - it's been a really enjoyable year on here.

Tis my pleasure. Nothing else to do these days and it gives me a sense of purpose, if not an income.

Anyway, it's the final final of 2016, Supermik was up against the powerhouse WhiteRoseKillie... And the scores were...

WhiteRoseKillie 18 - 10 Supermik

Unlucky ... Supermik... not really much you can do when you come up against the cup specialist, but a sterling effort nonetheless.

And here's WhiteRoseKillie's cup (I think I'll let him keep it since he's won it three times in a row!)..

I love how both G_Man and Blackislekillie felt the need to preface their answer about the sugar-lump with "total guess" / "not a clue"... it wasn't really supposed to be the kind of question you would know the answer to!

Anyway, I'm sure everyone is on the edge of the seat waiting for the answer... which is..

So congratulations to G_Man1985 (1874) who narrowly pipped Blackislekillie (1794) to complete a remarkable late charge and promotion to the top table. Hard lines to Blackislekillie... once you go down it's very difficult to come back (hope he understands that reference!).

Remember, the new league kicks off on Monday 2nd January (or more likely on New Year's Day), and we'll all be brimming with confidence and hope for the year ahead until the first question about the Collingwood Magpies appears.

5/10 for Thursday and Friday. Was Wilfred's sister nit called Winifred in the Bash Street Kids?

Hmmm. Can't really find any evidence of it online... surely if she was an occasional character she wasn't really part of the core gang?!

Still, nice pedantry :)

Morning folks. Hope yer all having a good festive period! Decided to do 1 last quiz for the year and finished with a 6/10 for Friday's Aussie quiz. First 4 wrong then a run of 6 correct. Congrats to WRK on another cup win (can anybody stop this quiz machine [emoji848]) and well done GMan on his promotion. Have a very happy new year and I'll be back with you all in 2017 for more quizzing and hopefully a few league and cup wins for myself. Slanje-va [emoji898]

Happy New Year quizzers. What better way to get over feeling seedy than to herald in the New Year with a double dose from the NZ Herald.
