headthebaw
Arbroath fans can surely be optimistic about next season. Playoffs guaranteed. I'll be checking the odds anyway.

You never can tell in football... 16 months ago after a 5-1 win at East Fife over the Christmas period and it looked as if no one could stop us winning the league... bar one team. Ourselves! So taking nothing for granted, even if we have a great pre-season as we did last term... the signs are good so far!
1320Lichtie
Need to see how it works out on the pitch but we've got guys that can win a game now. Won't take anything for granted but I'm looking forward to next season a lot more that's for sure.
SimonLichtie
While we have made several very good signings so far, and been linked with some very good players, I think people maybe need to keep it in their pants for now. We're still missing pretty much an entire defence. I'm absolutely delighted with the standard of player we've managed to attract so far, but good players don't make a good team. A good team needs a mix of different types of players who work well together. Worth remembering a few posters got very excited when we signed Coult and Grehan, and they seemed rather riled when I suggested they may not be the world beaters some were making them out to be...... look how they turned out
SimonLichtie
Also - having a 'good' pre-season or 'bad' pre-season in terms of results is an absolute and utter irrelevance to the real stuff. Glorified training sessions with almost no contact between players are VERY different to competitive League 2 games. Judging players and getting excited about pre-season results is madness, as is being worried by having a 'bad' pre-season. If the players know each others strengths and weaknesses, the team has a balance to it and the players are fit come the end of July that's all that matters, results have always been irrelevant. It may be slightly different this year with the League Cup games though, which will obviously be far more competitive than a pre-season kick about.
lichtiekev
Plus we got David Gold signed, one of your favourite players Simon 🙈

afc_36_0
Cant remember the last time we made so many good signings early on in the season, proven quality too

SimonLichtie
Plus we got David Gold signed, one of your favourite players Simon David Gold is the exact type of player who will look good in pre-season, when he gets given several yards of space and can use his obvious technical ability, but when the real stuff starts and the opposition get in his face he'll suddenly disappear in my opinion. Players like Gold and Skelly are immensely frustrating, both have technical ability but neither of them can handle the physical side of the game and therefore lose the ball far too often and neither are able to put in any sort of challenge. McCord has to play alongside a more defensive minded, tough tackling midfielder who can mop up and protect the defence. David Gold..... is not the man for the job
Tamhain
Don't think Colin Hamilton would drop to league 2. If he did that would be an even better signing than McCord Never in a million years. Ryan McChord was outstanding for Alloa and was in the division team of the year for both our seasons in the two lower leagues. Colin Hamilton was so good at fullback we had to narrow the pitch for him. As long as you keep Ryan off the pies you've got the signing of the season.
1320Lichtie
When you get a few in it can be a good tool to encourage guys to sign too. Little, Linn, Doris, Prunty, McCord etc. These kind of guys will help encourage others to sign on maybe. So we've got; Ricky Little Michael Dunlop Omar Kader David Gold Gavin Malin Mark Whatley (RB maybe, did he play there in Forfarshire cup v Forfar?) Bobby Linn Ryan McCord Brian Prunty Steven Doris Kane Hester And heard rumours regarding Grant Adam, Colin Hamilton, Mark Lamont and David Weatherston now..

BB_Bino
Keep it in your pants guys!!!! ;-) Good advice. Yes the signings have been impressive (and that's an outsider speaking) but we all remember Clyde and what they were saying this time last season

In honesty it looks good on paper SO FAR but need to see how it all pans out on a Saturday in real life. Like I sad earlier at least it will definitely be better than last season..

Lichtie78
Neil Parry, another player who's left Airdrie due to their full time status, would be a good shout if we aren't in for/don't get Grant Adam.
Craigy
Granted it is only rumours at this stage but Abroath appear to be Hamilton's likely destination which makes this piece that was in our local rag last week all the more bizzare. http://www.alloaadvertiser.com/sport/alloaathletic/14473590.Hamilton__Jack_can_make_us_contenders_in_League_One/

What would you expect him to say to an Alloa paper whilst he could maybe still be an Alloa player? 'Aye no sure about next season probably will get offered a contract but don't know if I'll take it' ?
