John McGlashan

Today marks 3 years since we lost the absolute gentleman and Lichties Hall of Famer John McGlashan. John was not only a true professional and ambassador for the club but he was also a great supporter of TASC and friend to Carol. He first arrived at Gayfield on loan from Dundee in 1998 and made an instant impact on the field in the heart of midfield scoring 3 goals in 14 appearances. He returned to Gayfield in 2000 where he remained until May 2005 making 132 appearances and scoring 31 goals. John was to return to Gayfield in September 2005 to become our player / Manager taking over from Harry Cairney who resigned. Arbroath were going through a tough period at that time but John turned around our fortunes and sealed promotion from Division Three in 2008 with a dramatic playoff win against Stranraer at Stair Park. Do you have a favourite memory of John?

Last year's away cup match  against Falkirk was a non - event with Arbroath fans were treated like a herd of cattle and squeezed into the far away corner near the corner flag.

Arbroath were off form that night and that match is best forgotten about - it was also one of the few games where Logan Chalmers ( on loan from United) came on as a sub for the last 30 mins of the match.

The draw against Celtic is a great incentive for both teams - hopefully Arbroath will have the edge with home advantage  and a  fully fit squad.

Expect this to be a close match.

Absolute legend of a man and very sad when this happened, he done a lot for the Red Lichties and the town of Arbroath in general, so much so that there is now a street in the town named after him, sadly his Father Jake passed away 2 weeks ago and he was was a regular at the Red Lichtie games home and away during his son's time at the club.
