AberDon
The squad could certainly do with another left-back - I'm not sure having 4 players who can play there is quite enough. He's played right back for Caley, and to a good standard.
craigkillie
Absolute joke that Paterson is in before Gordon. We all know that Paterson - or Gordon for that matter - will not play but surely we should be selecting someone who has been playing very well in the top league rather that someone who has been decidedly average in the 2nd tier. Paterson was playing very well in the top league all of 6 months ago, and has substantially more top flight experience than Gordon. The players haven't suddenly changed in terms of ability since they swapped leagues in May.
craigkillie
He's played right back for Caley, and to a good standard. He played well there as an emergency option. But there's absolutely no need to rely on an emergency option when we have multiple natural right-backs available.
The Ginger Prince
Haud oan.. Callum Paterson? The last time Strachan seen him he was committing homicide on Dominique Malonga. And now he's getting called up ahead of someone more experience like David Gray? The mind boggles.

How many games did Paterson play at full back - did he not spend most of his time up front.
sergie's no1 fan
Yeah not really much other option now. Perhaps whittaker will be less if a bomb scare on his stronger side, don't think he's ever really played there for Scotland with Hutton being a near ever present on the right I think Whittaker has been good for Scotland the last few games. Certainly seems to have improved his defending abilities. Losing Bardsley is a big blow. I reckon he would have done a job on McGeady.

I think he was playing up front until about this time last season when Locke realised he was rotten. Hearts fans were raving about him at right back. Only seen him play there once and that was on the last game of the season, Wylde tore him a new one. Game didn't mean anything though.

Paterson is the future, will be good for him to be involved.

He played a few games at full-back in 2012/13, and then spent the entire second half of last season playing there too.

Knew it wouldn't be long before a Jambo would come galloping along to belittle someone else's opinion on their shite haircut of a right back. Gray is comfortably better than the majority of the dross that play for the shite teams in the Premiership and you ken it. Marsh
Maybe Russell Martin could play full-back with someone else i.e Greer partnering Hanley.
Mr Romanov
Paterson is a very promising player but the call up is a bit of a surprise, he's not been at his best this season. Can see the logic in it though, he's got the ability to be the Scotland RB for the next 10 years.
sjc
Maybe Russell Martin could play full-back with someone else i.e Greer partnering Hanley. Agree with this.....I actually think Martin is a tad on the small side for centre half. Paterson being drafted in is a strange one for me as imo he hasn't started the season particularly well (albeit missing some games with injury)........He does certainly have the potential though.

I think that's a possibility, but I reckon Whittaker would have started even if Bardsley was available.

I wouldn't have used "belittle", as that indicates your post could have been worse. It couldn't, it was terrible. I'll admit he's been your best player this season, but he couldny lace Broadfoots boots never mind Patersons.

KnightswoodBear
I've made a spectacular error and have booked my flight to go and see my sister in Northern Ireland for almost exactly the same time that this kicks off. All being well I might catch the 2nd half over there.

LAGer
Whittaker made a few crucial tackles in Poland and I think he would've played in this game. Maybe at left back again but now it'll maybe be Whittaker at right back and Robertson returning on the left. Really looking forward to both of these games. Genuine big game feel despite one being a friendly. It seems the apathy towards the national team for the last few years has gone to a certain degree.
