I've been to lots of films on my own... I live in hope that some fit usherette might take pity on me...

If anyone remembers the Classic/La Scala cinema in Nicholson Street, Edinburgh, that was a picture house for the single gentleman.... I was too young to have ever gone in of course... :whistle I wonder if the old bats that go in there for the Bingo now remember that it was a porn cinema...

I've been loads of times on my own. In fact I went after work today on my own to see Spooks: The Greater Good. Doesn't bother me in the slightest and I'd rather be doing something like that then sitting on my own in my flat because everyone else is too busy or not available to go.

I went to the pictures on my own for the first time the other week to see Avengers AOU.

I work 6pm-2am and was really bored before work, having done it once I'll defo be doing it again.

It was kinda awkward asking for the ticket and stuff at first but once your watching the movie you don't give a f**k.

Ticket machines are your friend here.

This and walk in 15 minutes after the published start time.

99% of the time the movie still hasn't started and the lights are down.

 A load of us from my old school used to go there on a Friday night before going to the old Odeon along the road.

Going to the cinema used to be a really good night out as there used to be 2 main films on unlike nowadays when there is only the 1 feature film. I'm not sure when they stopped showing the 2 films a night.

When 'films' went to being recorded not on film but digitally, anyone notice the image quality is just not the same?

It's like watching a projected TV programme, whereas real 'film' has a depth of field / depth of colour quality to it.

Been loads of times by myself and prefer it tbh. Once you have done it a few times you start to notice that most busyish screenings are full of people on their own. It's pretty socially acceptable these days especially in cineworlds with their unlimited card.

The only socially awkward thing I maybe wouldn't do myself is a restaurant (and even that depends on the type) - I often work away from home and on my own so have no issues eating on my own in a wetherspoons/pub type place. Fast food places and pizza restaurants ill do but anything fancier and I prob wouldn't get a table for one.

Which of these activities would you be comfortable doing on your own?

Cinema

Pub (for drink)

Restaurant

Cafe (for coffee etc)

Football

Gig

Holiday

Day out (historic attraction, zoo, beach etc)

Nightclub

Party/Wedding (where you don't know many people)

I've been traveling on my own a couple times and during one of trips I went to the cinema on my own. Not really a holiday though. Though I've been to the cinema many times on my own in general. I'd go as far as to argue, why would you go to the cinema with someone who isn't interested in going?

With a restaurant, say you stayed in a hotel for work and basically had to go out for dinner on your tod, you've really broken the seal after that.

Been travelling myself twice and also work away from home a fair bit so have probably done all of those bar nightclub and wedding. Going to a club yourself would either suggest you're off your face and just want to keep going... or if you're sober, a bit rapey.

I did turn down a wedding invitation where I only knew the bride and groom but it was in Dublin. Had it been in Glasgow I'd probably have gone.

I am pretty introverted but the only ones I find a bit awkward are restaurant and gigs. Gigs are OK once the band are on so tend to try and find out stage times and turn up shortly beforehand.

All OK on your own apart from:

Restaurant (sitting at a table on your own)

Holiday (ordering in room service to avoid sitting at a table on your own, however you have sit on your own at breakfast)

Nightclub (OK on your own in a pub but not a nightclub)

Never been on holiday on my own but have done the rest.

Which of these activities would you be comfortable doing on your own?

Cinema - Done

Pub (for drink) - Done

Restaurant - only fast food, wouldn't do anything fancier unless I was in a hotel by myself then I might

Cafe (for coffee etc) - Done

Football - Done

Gig - Would do

Holiday - Probably wouldn't do but would be nice to do all your own thing

Day out (historic attraction, zoo, beach etc) - Would do

Nightclub - Probably wouldn't

Party/Wedding (where you don't know many people) - Probably not if I barely knew anyone (But why would I be invited to a wedding with people I didn't know?!)

I remember I got up at 1pm after 5 months constant nightshift, trying to turn myself around back to the land of the living.

Trying think of anything to do to make me stay awake I went to see the hills have eyes at the cinema on my own. Only person in the room, and I was shitting myself, but since then I've been to the cinema a few times on my own on a weekday at about 1 or maybe 2 o'clock. I don't see a problem with it.

Everything apart from going to a night club, the dross that you see on the P&B thread endorses my opinion.

Cinema - if I had too, don't think I would tho

Pub - could do that easy, when I'm out pished I usually just end up speaking to randoms anyway, don't think I would tho

Restaraunt - nope wouldn't do that

Cafe for coffee - aye easy

Football - yup would do

Gig - nope

Holiday - nope, unless it was travelling about

Day out - nope

Nightclub - definitely not

Party/wedding - if I was invited then definitely, like I said earlier I find it ridiculously easy talking to people I don't know especially if I've had a drink in me

If I was desperate to see a movie id go myself, I mean you don't speak to anybody when it's on anyway

Been too

Cinema

Pub

Restaurant

Cafe

Football match

On my own several times. Don't think I'd do any of the others, not through not finding it acceptable but I see them more a sociable things rather than things I would do on my own.

As for the cinema, going on your own during the week is great and usually pretty quiet any film I want to see the bird won't I'm happy to go on my own before a nightshift.
