The Scottish Government have dealt with this absolutely correctly. Any allegation has to be taken seriously.

Apart from the fact that any other approach would be used by unionists to try and beat the SNP over the head it would also be paying lip service to equality politics if it wasn't taken seriously.

It's hard to say whether the SG has dealt with this absolutely correctly given the polar views being expressed by Salmond and the Perm Sec. Allegations should be taken seriously. The person against whom the allegations are being made is entitled to expect sufficient information to understand the detail of the allegations. It's not clear that such a balance has been achieved based on what AS is saying but that appears to be in dispute to some extent.

Best thing is to let them all get on with it. If AS is innocent as be says he is then no doubt it'll come out in the wash. If not then que sera.

First line, how you're going to vote "next time". Second line, there won't be another vote in your lifetime.

Why did Salmond, after seeking legal guidance, originally try to block the publication of these allegations (by the SG) including what is claimed to have happened at Bute House in Dec 2013?

I'd imagine he wasn't keen on unproven allegations being splashed over the tabloids, guilty or not.

Hence the question, why did he originally try to block public disclosure by the SG then decide against pursuing a gagging order following legal advice?
