Andy Murray Latest and General Tennis Chat

Pouille played well for part of the match, but it was greatly helped by unforced errors by Murray.  Murray went into shut down mode when down the break in the first and just cut the errors out, and waited for Pouille to make the errors. He then upped the aggression, when he found his range.  Pouille at least made one set close, which is better than he has fared in previous matches.

Murray-Verdasco matches are usually fun, although the H2H is very lopsided they are some very tough matches involved.  His forehand is a thunderous shot when he is red lining.  The five setters at Wimbledon and the Australian Open were cracking matches.

Andy Murray has now made the final of every tournament he has played since the Madrid Masters last year, with the exception of the last two Slams.  That consistency is something I thought I would never see from Murray.

Heard that tiebreaker against Kohlschreiber was longer than the 3rd set. [emoji38]

Yep, at 31 minutes it was longer than a lot of sets you see.

ETA: The players and umpire were so confused with it going so long they all forgot to change ends at 15-15.

As Elixir said a dodgy couple of games where he chucked in four double faults, but apart from that he was solid.  Verdasco was hitting with some ferocity but Murray just returned like a wall, and Verdasco just can't keep up the precision when he goes for power.  Error after error occurred and then it started seeping throughout his game.  It must be demoralising for a player when they are bringing their best game and Murray just absorbs it and hits a defensive shit deep again to push you back.

He now holds four 500 events in his ranking, which is quite a rare feat.  He also has moved up to #7 in the Race to London.  He is also now guaranteed to pass Mats Wilander who is on 20 weeks at number 1.  Think Murray will make 26 weeks, but if he has a good Indian Wells and Miami, he will be there until Wimbledon.

I see big Sam Querrey pumped Nadal in straight sets in the Acapulco Final. That's a great win for him.

All the top players bar Murray have had some pretty disappointing results this past week.
