Round 19: Make ‘Em Laugh

It’s traditionally considered bad luck to celebrate April Fools’ Day after 12 noon on the 1st April, but nevertheless, here’s Donald O’Connor acting a complete fool in the best comedy film ever made, Singin’ In The Rain:

Also in celebration is the theme of this round.

Here are ten lines from comedy movies: some classic, some a bit more obscure. A point for each film you can name:

1. “I don’t want you to think I’m a drinker. I can stop if I want to. Only I don’t want to.â€

2. “Gentlemen, you can’t fight here! This is the War Room!â€

3. “What if there’s no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today!â€

4. “I don't remember a time when I didn't want to be a police officer, apart from the summer of 1979 when I wanted to be Kermit the Frog.“

5. “I'll give this little cookie an hour before we're doing the no-pants dance. Time to musk up.â€

6. “They’re sort of like fire and ice, and my job is to be somewhere in the middle. Like a sort of lukewarm water.â€

7. “I used to be a heroin addict, now I’m a methadone addict.â€

8. “How can you give Kris Kringle a parking ticket on Christmas Eve? What's next, rabies shots for the Easter Bunny?â€

9. “One gay beer for my gay friend, one normal beer for me because I am normal.â€

10. “That rug really tied the room together.â€

PM me your answers by midnight on Friday.

Good luck

Round 21: Who’s The Daddy?

Maybe movie-making is in some people's blood, or maybe they're just born into it, but since the beginning of cinema there have always been family dynasties in Hollywood and beyond - and that's what this week's round is all about.

This week's questions are ten clues about movie personalities with movie personality dads. Half a point for naming each person I'm describing and half a point if you can tell me the name of their father.

1. Won Oscars for Klute and Coming Home

2. Youngest ever person to win an Oscar

3. Played Sally Bowles in Cabaret

4. Director of Lost In Translation

5. Played Dr. Sattler in Jurassic Park

6. Played the title character in Maleficent

7. Writer, director and star of Men At Work

8. Martin Scorsese’s third wife, and daughter of the star of Spellbound and Notorious

9. Director of Juno

10. Played the murder victim in Woody Allen's Crimes And Misdemeanors

PM me your answers by midnight on Friday.

FYI: The round has been edited. Those of you confused this week have every reason to be, because Q2 so obviously shouldn’t be in there at all! I had been trying to come up with a “namesake†round for a while and has mixed it up a bit, but I have no idea how that Bergman question made its way into being posted. I’m docking myself 10 points for negligence.

See above for the replacement Question 2.

Raging. I thought about the Departed for that big chocolate tower, but somehow convinced myself it wasn't and that the scene in the Departed was like a massive knicker bocker glory in a glass. Dick.
