Christmas Telly

I was away for a couple of days so didn't watch any telly. However, I've had a look at what is available on iPlayer and waterboarding isn't good enough for most BBC producers. What a load of shite.

Some gems though:

1. The Dad's Army Story. OK so DA has 4 jokes (Silly Boy; We're all doomed; Don't tell him, Pike; They don't like it up 'em) and went for a decade past its sell-buy date but this is better than all the DA episodes together. Great acting, especially from our own John Sessions.

2. The Story of Aardman. I could watch this once a month for a decade. How plasticine won The Oscars. Oh and Bill Nighy is cool as f**k.

3. The Farmer's Llamas. 30 mins of how bucolic England's pastoral bliss was ruined by rowdy footballing-loving South American camelids. Animated by the above.

4. Lucy Porter's Chebs. OK so it may be officially called "University Challenge - Christmas 2015: 3. Manchester v UEA" but I defy any hetero male to watch it and not think "Tit w**k".

So what were your telly highlights? Lowlights?

It was also top notch comedy, with UEA managing to be on -5 for most of the show.

Even I am not such an anorak as to watch it again but I'm pretty sure David Archer made another interruption and got it wrong and they should have been on -10.

I quite enjoyed And Then There Were None, although they loved a self-indulgent slo-mo a bit too much. Haven't seen anything else which has been any good - hoping that Charlie Brooker's 2015 Wipe will provide a bit of entertainment this evening. I'll record the Sherlock special on New Year's Day as well.

Christmas telly didn't really entice me to watch it. The adverts showed me that it wasn't up to much.

I spent most of the day cooking, cleaning and getting folk drinks. Didn't even switch the telly on until people had left. Then we ended up watching films that we'd all seen before.

When is Screenwipe on? I'll watch that. I'll also watch Sherlock at New Year and the film of Les Miserables (even though I've seen it) as it has an excellent cast and a good range of revolutionary songs to get my inner prole animated.

Anything good to look out for this year?

A lot of the usual crap but a couple of things I'm looking forward to.

Inside No. 9 - The Devil Of Christmas - dark comedy set in an Alpine ski lodge with Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith

The Entire Universe - Eric Idle teams ups with Brian Cox whose science lecture turns into a major musical.

Good shout, hadn't noticed either of those in the listings. Will definitely be getting watched.

Also looking forward to Charlie Brooker and Philomena Cunk.

Not particularly looking forward to Dr Who as the last few episodes annoyed me, but will watch it nevertheless.
