I saw a note somewhere that 70% of those convicted (so far) in the riots have criminal convictions. That's more than double the rate of criminal conviction in the population. Interestingly the figures for the 2011 riots were about the same, with 73% of those rioters having a previous criminal conviction. When you get riots, no matter the cause, you get criminals and basically people who are chaotic and anti-social jumping on and taking part. Another good example of this is the Kyle Rittenhaus case from the States. Rittenhouse shot dead two rioters in Wisconsin in the aftermath of the murder of Geroge Floyd. The rioters he shot dead were both criminals - Joseph Rosenbaum had been convicted for child sex offences; Anthony Huber had been imprisoned for assaulting his siblings. However, Rittenhouse is not some sort of heroic individual. He was a high school drop out, he had picked up a number of small misdemenours (driving offences) and had been disqualified from joining the Marines. The Marines can't say what disqualified him but generally you cannot join if you have low intelligence, haven't graduated high school or have mental health issues.
