I think she is confusing prefer with lack of alternatives

There is clearly data showing more folk go in on the train and out but that's surely due to the service being abysmal coming back than any great desire to get some steps in

I've always walked, assuming the trains would be packed and not worth the bother.

I did the same. It's a consequence of a shit service.

I thought the alcohol ban was Covid related

What nonsense

I doubt it'll be lifted whilst its run by the government that once only allowed pubs to open on the condition they didn't serve alcohol.

And think charging more money will cure addiction.

“Temporary”

Anyone that believed that it was temporary must've had a bump on the head.

I don't agree with the ban, but it must have been a pain in the napper for the guards to tolerate pished up folk on trains.

And now they have to put up with pished up folk flagrently flouting the ban.

What a time to be alive

I've been on plenty of trains since the ban and the conductors don't care if folk are drinking. They probably, correctly, believe they don't get paid enough to attempt to stop a load of folk drinking, especially later trains where you'll get entire carriages having a drink.

There will probably be a few conductors who will try to enforce it, but they are very much a very small minority in my experience.

What are the laws elsewhere in regards to drinking on trains?  It's not something I've ever really looked out for abroad but I do remember it not being allowed in Australia.

It's not a law in Scotland. It's just a rule on Scotrail trains. Other operators, like LNER, sell alcohol on their trains in Scotland and have no rules against folk bringing their own on.

A nice young lady took a well stocked trolley to my upstairs seat on a a Swiss double decker. Almost all the trouble on trains is caused by tanked up arseholes getting on, not people having a few cans on board and minding their own business.

Drinking on a train and also the drinking in public rule (some of us) are landed with should be treated the same and looked at on a case by case basis.

Guy sitting on the train home having a couple of cans or a few mates down the park with a carry out enjoying the sunshine, no problem and leave them be. Pished up arsehole with a can of Special Brew harassing folk or a group of wankers drinking Bucky and smashing bottles, lift them or fine them

There's already rules/laws in place to deal with these things

They've used Covid as an excuse to bring in laws like this.
