Suspect unless you take in another striker he will be needed and used. Evergreen Brian Graham isn't getting any younger although still bangs in 20 a season at ease. Really like the signings of Logan Chalmers, Dan MacKay, Robbie Crawford and of course the return of Kyle Turner. You lads seemingly have an abundance of riches in midfield. Fitz, Lawless still at the club too, some depth there. No indication that Doolan wants to send Diack out on loan, although I do think it would be better for his development than stuck with another year of limited appearances off the bench. And yeah, the assumption seems to be that we’ll sign an experienced backup striker at some point as well, which would push Ricco further down the pecking order.

The blame lies with the match officials on the day and in whole the SFA for their sub-par system.

Sorry at no point is our management team at fault, Doolan was between a rock & a hard place if he played Diack & he scored we could be fucked for playing an "illegible" player or he doesn't use him & opts for another being Chalmers, but more concerning is the 4th official I believe realised his mistake & in turn let motherwell make their switch who was on the same page & ultimately hoped a fuss wouldn't be make & he would get away with his error

I suspect we will hold on to Diack even if we do bring in another striker.

The fourth official to have made a complete hash of copying down two sides substitutes. As I said previously we shouldn’t be in a situation where officials can’t be trusted to know the proper team lines and give the correct information out to coaching staff.
Stan Butler Says
I also believe the rather odd officiating in this match was rounded off nicely by the referee blowing his whistle before the (minimum of) three minutes injury time was played - there were several seconds left with the Thistle goalie about to launch the ball into the Motherwell half for one last (albeit desperate) attempt on goal.

Dunty
BBC and Sky saying the bid to have the game replayed has been turned down. Which is odd as thought there was no request and the media had just made it up.

Claudia Gentile
Spoiler Tuesday 30th July, 2024 at 8:27pm Following the club writing to the SPFL and Scottish FA yesterday regarding events surrounding Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup group stage fixture against Motherwell, we can update supporters as follows. By way of explanation, both the SPFL and Scottish FA have confirmed that the fact we were denied the opportunity to introduce Ricco Diack as a substitute during Sunday’s second half was due to human error by a match official. It has also been confirmed to us by the SPFL, who are responsible for the running of the Premier Sports Cup, that while this particular error is an “unusual one” the “SPFL does not replay matches as a result of errors by Match Officials”. While everyone at the club remains deeply frustrated by this situation, we reluctantly accept the explanations offered and, again reluctantly, consider the matter closed. What is always important in such situations is that lessons are learned for the future which is not only important for Partick Thistle but also for our fellow clubs across Scotland and the wider integrity of Scottish football and its supporters. We are grateful that both the SPFL and Scottish FA have confirmed they have taken steps to ensure that this does not happen again. We can also confirm that we will pay Ricco Diack the appearance bonuses he was due had he been able to appear as a substitute on Sunday, an opportunity he was denied through no fault of his own. This episode has been an unwanted distraction for the club this week but we do now consider the matter closed and the full focus of everyone at the club is on Saturday’s William Hill Championship fixture at home to Morton. Club update – 30th July 2024 No replay, no compensation, no apology, no nothing really. Edited July 30 by Claudia Gentile
Claudia Gentile
That's a line drawn under Comet-gate now. Hopefully Kris can use a bit of psychology to fire up the players that extra % for the coming league games.
Jaggy McJagface
That’s far too cuddly toy from us, as usual. Does anyone believe either of the ugly sisters would be told to move on and just get on with it? Heads would be rolling. We should be demanding compo from the governing bodies and they should be paying Diack his appearance fee.
Barney Rubble
Hypothetical situation. Wonder what would have happened had Mark Ferrie (Motherwell's number 20 on the team lines) who came on after Ricco Diack was denied, had similarly been denied entry as a sub because Ricco had been denied before him. And then BBG (or anyone) had scored for Thistle to win the game. Kettlewell would have been fizzing, and quite rightly so. Does anyone think we wouldn't have been facing a replay in that scenario???
