Cardinal Richelieu
Couldn't see a topic on this. They're currently filming it in Glasgow and in Edinburgh. All the big names are back ... Except Tommy So what do you reckon it will be like? Obviously, it won't be as good as the original, but I'm still looking forward to it immensely. Hopefully they don't concentrate too much on the "porno" side of things as that was ridiculously far-fetched (although not as much as Spud writing a book on the history of Leith). KnightswoodBear
The book was terrible, so hopefully they pay it lip service and do something good instead. I can't say my hopes are particularly high for this one.
killienick
The book was dreadful. It's ridiculously hard to read Edinburgh slang though which didn't really help my enjoyment I don't think. The 'presents' Sick Boy sends Begbie in prison though

BFTD
That picture of Robert Carlyle just reminds me of how good an actor he is. That's the least Begbie-looking c**t ever on that poster
MONKMAN
I actually preferred the book to train spotting.
the jambo-rocker
The only bit from the book I hope they pay lip service to is Sick Boy anonymously sending Begbie gay porn while still in Prison
welshbairn
Was the first movie like the book at all? I thought the film glamourised heroin, despite the swimming in shit sequence and other scenes. The book was more honest about the misery is causes.

The book was more honest about the misery is causes. Yeah the book is dark, albeit it has some humour in it. I'm no expert but I think Welsh's fiction has become more like the Trainspotting film, humour and shock value, than the book.
supermik
They were filming in Gorgie earlier this week I posted last week about trees that had loads of pairs of boots hanging in their branches. The trees are right behind where that photo was taken.
Cardinal Richelieu
The book is more a series of recollections from different people (some of whom made it into the film, some of who didn't). It would have been nearly impossible to translate that exactly to celluloid. So it's basically the key characters from the book (a couple of them were combined into a single character), with a bit of a plot thrown in. Interesting that Trainspotting only received one Oscar nomination ... for best adapted screenplay. The latest book by Irvine Welsh has Begbie released from prison, marrying his American psychotherapist, and moving to the USA. WTF? Think I'll give that a miss. His book about Juice Terry as a randy taxi driver is a good laugh though.
Bert Raccoon
Let's just hope Juice Terry makes an appearance in this film.
KnightswoodBear
I read A Decent Ride on holiday last year. As we were there with the in laws there was some awkward moments when I was asked what I was howling with laughter at. They eventually stopped asking. Shandon Par
Does Begbie still sport the tash? Begbie has gone teetotal and quit smoking. Won't spoil the rest of the book. I liked Juice Terry in Porno. Trying to explain to foreign girls that he was "oan the juice lorries".

Bert Raccoon
Is it Porno? Someone said to me it's not going to be based on porno I think it will be loosely based on it.
welshbairn
If it's done chronologically it will be a bit creepy having a bunch of guys approaching 50 making and some of them appearing in porn films.
