Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

It's also right out of Page 1 of an Agent's playbook. If you think Gallagher and his agent aren't fully behind this story, you're naive in the extreme.

It's a high risk move, I'll give them that, but it's 100% from them. In normal times, he'd get a mysterious injury and miss out on reaching 25 games, leaving in the summer for free. However, he does that and then it's doubtful he makes the Scotland squad for the Euro's.

I'm going to assume his agent knows there's offers for him coming imminently and is trying to force MFC into accepting them.

I don't think any Motherwell fan grudges a player moving up the ladder, but the "gun to the head" patter is absolutely atrocious and baws need to be severely booted for it.

I think the bottom line is that things have gone far better for Gallagher than he could have imagined when he signed on. At that point, it was a decent length of contract but he would never have thought that he would be a regular in the Scotland setup and looking like featuring at a major tournament.

My confusion is different. Firstly, would buying out a 1 year contract at  Motherwell by paying a relatively modest transfer fee really phase Celtic given the silly money they regularly spunk on middling players? If Celtic want him, they wouldn't care.

Secondly, from a clueless supporter point of view, I would have assumed that the optimal time to move would be in the Summer with the Euro's on his CV rather than trying to force something now.

I'm finding this funnier than I probably should, mainly because of the unexpected *PLOT TWIST* aspect on the automatic extension but also just how badly Gallagher and his Mr 20% have played this. It's an unedifying car crash of a move.

"holding a gun to his head"?...gies peace.

Motherwell's business model is player trading, we've literally just sold a player to Celtic not long ago. The idea that Motherwell aren't going to be open to a (relatively) modest transfer and that Celtic (if they genuinely want him) wouldn't be willing to pay it is quite something.

For a guy who carries himself as he does, the idea that Big Dick Declan and his guy think that a club having to pay a (relatively) modest fee is prohibitive to him getting his "big move" is some pretty low-self esteem shit.

Not sure I'd read too much in to quotes from 'sources' in the story published to be honest.  As I recall, Declan also doesn't have an agent persay - certainly not when he signed for us and was having chats with St. Johnstone.

On the goalkeeping front, anyone else heard anything about Liam Kelly coming in on loan from QPR?

Apparently, he’s about to head back to Scotland for some regular football. That’s why QPR have recalled the keeper they had on loan at Hibs.

Would make sense if Carson is humped, plus he fits in nicely with the friends of Declan signing policy.

Getting reported this morning in some of the local London press that this is the case.

If it didn't come from Gallagher himself or his agent, how do you think that sort of story makes it into the paper? It gives details of his contract that aren't public knowledge, it's as obvious as it ever gets.

I've no doubt a chat with a friendly journo has happened. I doubt the feeling of 'gun to the head' is the actual reality or what the player wanted portrayed.

QPR Keeper set for Motherwell loan move

Aye just reading that there, he was fairly decent at Livi was he not?

Surely about as good as we could hope for on such short notice.

He's an upgrade on Carson IMO.

Id been holding some small hope we'd go for him when Twitter started rumours he could leave QPR. Seeing our goalkeeper touted as a big reason we're not lower down the league (?!) put paid to those dreams though.

I hate you c***s.

Find it very strange to give big Dec the captaincy and him to take it knowing fair well he’d be offski in January or the summer.

Who would you have given it to? We have a team pretty much bereft of leaders. Carson would've been the only other player I would have even considered for it.

Using Chapman as a benchmark I'd say Kelly is akin to Buffon.

Yup, under our present circs Kelly would be a good move. Selected for a few Scottish 'A' squads and did well at Livi.

But SJ fan saying he is better than Carson is tripe.

A concern is his height as he falls into the Twardzik and Hollis category.

McGinley and Cole don't wanna be here? Did I miss that?

Probably a bit OTT on these two, McGinley done an interview suggesting he was finding it tough settling in and I think someone speculated that there was something more to it i.e he was struggling with this.

In regards to Cole, I'm a big fan of him but I always feel like he's a similar type that can't wait to get back down the road to England. I get that this is the goal for most guys coming to the club but I just feel it is a bit too overt at times. I think we down ourselves a wee bit sometimes, we aren't THAT shite a place to be. Cole and others jump at the chance to go and then come back here as a last resort (Long) There is a fine line between getting these guys who are ambitious and having guys that actually enjoy being here and might actually stay for more than a couple of seasons. Contridicting myself but in saying all this Devante is probably one of the few guys I'd keep just now. You know though, come contract expiration we will be 2nd choice to some L1 club.

Gallagher story looks like dirge stirred up by his agent. I'd be shocked if Celtic were even looking at him after the season he has had thus far.

Liam Kelly looks like a good move, hopefully we can get it finalised. To me, it doesn't bode well for Carson's recovery time. I wouldn't expect Kelly to come in unless he thought he was going to get a chance of first team football atleast to start with.

On the manager front I really hope we are making quick progress. We really need someone in by atleast the Rangers game to give them a chance to bring folk in. The goalkeeper position is a no brainer but I don't really think it's a bright idea for Lasley/Foyle to bring in their own players prior to a new manager coming in.
