EU Referendum Results/Updates thread

Iain Duncan Smith said that there appears to have been high turn outs from council estates - who traditionally are piss-poor voters, especially outside of general elections.

Strangely enough, during his Easterhouse jaunts whilst Tory party leader, he'd warned (& was ignored) that Westminster politicians ignored areas like it because of their apathy at elections at their peril, because when the day came there was something they gave a big enough damn about to go out & vote about it, the first the political classes would know about it would be after any damage had been done at the ballot box.

This looks like it's going to be an interesting night ahead.

I'd agree - not helped by Labour's lacklustre campaign.

Unfortunately Corbyn isn't really interested in the EU and he's not you typical slippery politician that will comfortably do and say what's required.

We being our universities, research institutes, farmers as you say, us as people given that we get infrastructure (roads/buildings etc)

The Sunderland result is the most surprising one, given Nissan has its EU factory base there, that is a prime example of EU bringing in jobs.

The folk at the bottom of society have next to no contact with universities, farms, and even skilled work factories.

It has a knock on effect, these places are employers and bring money into the economy which will possibly go. The EU gives British universities £730 million a year in grants which is a lot of money to come out of the economy.
