mjw
Candidates confirmed as MPs Angus Robertson and Tommy Sheppard, MEP Alyn Smith and Inverclyde Councillor Chris McEleny[emoji38] Who are the SNP members on here leaning towards? I'd never heard of Alyn Smith till his standing ovation speech but he seems to be a bit of a headline grabber. What's the story with the MEPs though? Are they in a job till article 50 or until the day we actually leave?

Granny Danger
I'm a member though not an active one. I don't know much about the Councillor guy but if he was a credible candidate it may be a useful break in tradition if someone who was not a Parliamentarian held this position. The chaos in Labour is partly fuelled by the idea that only those in Parliament know what is best for the political party that they are a member of. Alan Stubbs
Smith reminds me of Hosie. Can do a decent speech but also tends towards an arrogant sneery tone that isn't actually very helpful for the party. Would go for Robertson all day.
Dunning1874
I realise that some people may be tempted by McEleny on the basis of his socialist rhetoric and the hope for furthering left-wing values, along with the symbolism of having a councillor in a senior position when the SNP have been heavily criticised for their policies on local government in the past, but how many will have had any knowledge of him before the election and will have more than his rhetoric to go on? In any case, he'll be dropping out the campaign early on the back of a media slating as soon as someone gets round to asking him his views on abortion. terracingtam
Not too concerned as they will all be out of a job soon. The total mess of all of their policies is beginning to be recognised more and more. No need to name which are a mess and I'm struggling to name one that is working well. No doubt that someone will post some obscure item that has not been made a mess of, but be careful because the list of failures will overshadow anything. DrewDon
I very briefly met McEleny after I'd been speaking on a panel at an STUC fringe a few years back. He seemed alright, but that almost certainly isn't the best way to garner a reliable impression of his character. Would I be correct to assume that Sheppard will pitch to the left of Robertson? That might carry some appeal, especially to younger and newer members.

Any idea on whether and when the ordinary voters get to crush the councillor's ludicrous delusions of adequacy?
Sherrif John Bunnell
A quick Google search seems to suggest that the Red Robs of the world hate him because he's got a vaguely Irish name.

Oh aye, only increasing their share of the vote from 44% to 47% in the recent election is a right fucking minter for the SNP, isn't it?

Unfortunately he seems to have deleted the facebook post where he explicity stated that he is opposed to it and would like to see legislation against it. That was in the run-up to the 2015 election, interested to know if he's deleted it due to changing his views or due to the rammy that ensued in the comments section. I did find this post where he shared a letter from the Catholic Church which stated "Laws which permit abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide are profoundly unjust" but sharing a seven point letter doesn't necessarily mean he endorses every point within it so I'll see if I can get any clarification of his current stance. Anyroad, Robertson for me all day long. Always seems to carry himself well, and his speeches in Westminster are always eloquent and powerful.
