So am I an apologist or politically naive now? I’m not sure.

You seem quite confused over this.

You're an apologist for sexism if you decide have a go at someone pointing out sexism.

That's not to say the Tories don't pull similar shit often. There's nothing confusing here. Other than people being confused whether they should stand on the side of the Tories on this. Which they should. It's the problem of the SNP and Labour and the rest that they don't do the same.

An apologist for sexism, get a grip.

Its deflection tactics of the highest order and you’re a stupid man (;)) if you can’t see that.

I remember attending a friends wedding in Italy where I was seated at a table full of arrogant tossers, all of them had attended Uni with my friend at Birmingham and UCLA, they all had medical or scientific research degrees, however every one of them was working in "the city" as investment bankers or in HR positions at said companies. I did ask what was the point in going through all their training to end up working in finance but the answer was that was where the "big money" was.

It was then that I realised what a sorry state this country had become and why we struggle to get Doctors or Scientists as basically these people don't have a "dream" or any sort of interest in their fields of knowledge but are merely chasing a quick buck as fast as they can get it.

As I say, pretty sad.............

Total agree.  I remember reading a Robert Peston book that talked about this.

Somebody fully trained on cancer research, for example, can make more money in the city speculating on the future of companies involved in cancer research than doing the work themselves..
Similarly for every other specialised subject you can imagine.
I find it very disheartening.

It IS deflection tactics. I agree on that. But they're still on the right side of this. It's not the Tories problem that other parties don't give a f**k about bigotry.

The Tories didn’t seem to mind too much when it was Phillip Hammond (who didn’t deny it, incidentally).

Maybe, just maybe, the Tories ‘give a f**k’ this time because it suits? And they don’t actually ‘give a f**k’?

My point is that it SHOULD matter. The Tories giving a f**k this time doesn't put them in the wrong. It's the rest that are in the wrong when they don't, and also the Tories.

So with everything that’s going on the big issue is whether or not Corbyn called May a stupid woman?

I fucking despair.

This.

Corbyn is an absolute diddy for giving the Tories something so easy to jump on that takes the heat off their incompetence for a bit. Not a huge surprise given the amount of own-goals he's managed to score from inside his own half over the past few months mind you.

Who cares a toss what he said, irrespective of whether it was "woman", "person", "transgender" whatever.

I think they and us have more important things to bloody worry about.....................

He says "stupid people", doesn't he?

I've watched it loads and I still can't clearly make out what he says. For me it's far from conclusive.

Also (i'm willing to be convinced on this btw) is that really that sexist? I mean, she is a woman and he thinks shes stupid, it's not as if he thinks shes stupid because shes a woman. My mum calls me a silly boy all the time, is she being sexist and ageist?

Probably, she'll be whisked off on charges of "hate crime" by the time you get home tonight.

1. I’m not convinced he did say it.

2. Far worse gets said in Parliament on a daily basis.

Its a farce and the way they have treated the speaker is pretty deplorable. To make complaints around respect and acceptable language by loudly jeering and haranguing someone who is trying to do their job is hypocritical beyond belief.

Westminister is designed with two sides facing each other, as if for a fight.  There is an invisible line running down the middle and huge importance is placed on grabbing the mace, or "crossing the floor" and there are people there who are convinced that all the shouting and jeering and the combative nature of the place is a highly effective way to run government.

Yeah, acting like a bunch of drunken louts is obviously the best way to do things.

None of that namby-pamby, "let's be polite and listen to anyone", semi-circle nonsense.

"Stupid people" is a shite argument in that context. But I guess that's the apologism that comes with being anti-Tory to the point where discrimination is fine.

I have the same opinion of Labour as I do of the Tories. I have no idea what you are talking about.

I never used the term "stupid people".

In real life though there is really nothing to see here. I'm afraid that if we're at the stage where saying "stupid woman" has somehow become a "hate crime" / "hanging offence", then we should all just pack up and chuck ourselves in the Clyde / Tay / Forth / Dee / Don etc.
