Yeah Ireland have done this in the space of a fortnight with is it Rosslaire or something.  Already up and running and bypassing Dover completely.

They did, think it was covered by an additional ferry service Wexford to Cherbourg. Amazing what you can do when you run your own affairs

Aye, its something that should have been done decades ago really but WM was never interested.

...See when people say stuff like lets leave identity politics you really mean lets all stay British eh, ....

No I genuinely mean being European federalist complete with the euro, Schengen and no Maastricht opt outs. The inability of the UK elite to properly embrace Europe because they wanted to "stay British" in a weird post-imperial twilight is what made the rise of Farage's brand of identity politics possible because none of the mainstream political parties were making a positive case for the European Union. Sammy Wilson is a bit of a low IQ individual in many ways but he is far from alone in that in UK politics.

Its just a coincidence then that your preferred course of action retains control of Scotland in London and Scotland a part of the UK then?  And your sneering contempt for those who wish simply to run their own country as practicing 'identity politics' is a bit of a giveaway mate.

I'd imagine that Rosyth will get an upgrade. Anything going through Gretna will be for England and Wales only.

Might not be the answer for everything, especially time sensitive goods. Not sure about the costs either.

Trucks are taking days to clear customs in Dover, mate.  Which is why Ireland has set up these ferry routes.  HMRC are charging truckers £50 an hour to sit in a car park while the paperwork clears.  It's madness.

Edit: AN HOUR

Eventually it will get more automated and sealed containers with no EU or UK checks required will get fast tracked to get them out of the way. In a rational world. :1eye

*Breaking news*

Every single person, polity, nation, state and region on earth practices 'identity politics'.  Its literally how human beings have organised their societies for thousands of years. Its only in Scotland we're told its immoral and disgusting.

...the difference between you banging on about the evils of London control and Sammy Wilson banging on about the evils of Dublin control or Nigel Farage banging on about the evils of Brussels control is what exactly? I'd prefer politics revolving around a shared set of social values that readily transcends national boundaries to them and us tribalism that cavemen from thousands of years ago would have understood.

The difference is fundamental. These people come from places which already have self-determination, therefore their issue is about identity, and real nationalism, and bigotry. Scotland is in a completey different situation which is best described as decolonisation, people in Scotland just seek control over their own lives not somebody else's.

Your citizen of the world schtick is cute and would go down well in a first year uni dorm after a couple of joints but its nonsense. People have always organised themselves according to shared values, heritage, language, culture and yes also identity in some respects. It has ever been thus, you believe you are more enlightened when really you're just a bit more naive.

A website prominent in the campaign to take the United Kingdom out of the European Union, Leave.EU, this week saw its domain name suspended, as .eu domains are restricted to users within the EU.

To make matters worse for the site’s backers, the man who is listed as the site’s owner, a businessman from Waterford in Ireland, has denied any knowledge of the political group, and says his name was used without his permission.

The top-level domain .eu can only be used by individuals or organisations registered in the EU, which is the reason why the domain changed its registration in the run-up to the end of 2019, when the change came into effect. The site is now registered in Ireland without the knowledge of the man listed as its owner.

Businessman Sean Power told the Guardian last week, “My lawyers are looking into this on my behalf presently and will be in touch as deemed necessary in due course.”

The question was raised by Irish MP Neale Richmond in a letter to the country’s telecommunications asking it to investigate how it was possible to hijack someone’s identity in this way.

It is utterly ridiculous to think that Leave.EU could brass-plate an address in Waterford to maintain their domain name,” Richmond said on Friday. “They wanted to leave the EU, they have, that means they leave their domain too.”

The lobby group Leave.EU was originally set up by businessman Aaron Banks, who used part of his personal fortune to lobby for Brexit.
