Brexit slowly becoming a Farce.

This is it in a nutshell. I often feel uncomfortable defending the EU however, being a member with significant influence and pushing for reform was always the sensible option.

Brexit (and Trump) were knee jerk reactions to complex issues. Globalization, immigration, wage contraction, the rich/poor gap, an increasingly malign corporate influence.

It's just some folk haven't realised that Brexit and Trump are just more of the same but with added nationalism.

Cameron tried reform  of free movement and was snubbed.......that was what decided the result of the referendum.

It's true re: kneejerk reactions. It's a salutary lesson for politicians to listen to the electorate more and not to impose radical policies on people against their will.

Brexit , and Trump  are all knee jerk, ill-considered reactions by a dissatisfied electorate and I would suggest calls for indy ref2 is of the same Nationalistic ilk.

Daily Mail

Never mind the various Labour/LibDem/Tory MPs that get fast tracked to the House of Lords year after year

THIS is the real democratic disgrace

That aside. It just amazes me how May is still PM. Apart from her being shite.. she did the following

Called a GE because of her personal greed (cost country tens of millions), lost her majority, and then paid litterly a bung of 1billion + to a bigoted NI party to prop up her minority government. Just beggers belief... of course the needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before

During the Brexit campaign I heard various leave politicians giving it "They need us more than we need them" and I thought at the time bit of bravado bit of arrogance.

I now firmly believe they thought the EU was going to bend over backwards for a deal with the UK. Now that it seems this is not the case and they really don't "need us more than we need them"  they seem a bit shell-shocked and don't know what to do next.

I think that was partly behind May's "We need concensus" speech. It's like we're not taking the blame when it goes tits up, everybody needs to take the blame.

Scottish farmers warning that many may go out of business once EU subsidies end.

It won't happen.  The Tory government will subsidise farmers in Scotland (and the rest of the UK) to make sure it does not happen.

Of course the moral argument of supporting a particular industry which is dominated by Tory supporters will be brushed aside.

That said farmers who depend on EU migrant labour are going to struggle; of that I am convinced.

They will bus in the unemployed from all over the country to work on the farms.

i would not be surprised if they tried.  I would be astounded if it were successful.

Wouldn't surprise me either....  Also, with the subsidies I can only see the UK subsidising  for a short while after Brexit. It won't be sustainable in the long run.

Payments will decrease as time goes on to the point where farmers will go out of business

That's cause those people thought being dependent on EU imports more than the EU needing UK exports was a good thing.  Despite that scenario never being true in human history

What if Michelin starred chefs in Paris stop demanding Scottish langoustines though? Could spell trouble.

As if that's ever going to happen! [emoji16]

They might start buying Norwegian instead as our fishermen would no longer have preferential access to French markets

If you're Scottish and like Langoustines then the upside would be that they'd become cheaper domestically

The Norwegian fishermen are probably very similar to the Scottish ones in IQ. Big campaign got them exemption along with Agriculture from the Norway/EU single market deal. When it took effect they were scunnered to find out there would a substantial tariff on fish sold to the EU. Now they're campaigning for full EU membership.

f**k them. They'll have played a massive part in their own downfall.
