I'm at the same part. It's only really just getting going [emoji4]

Played through a couple of missions in Skyrim last night. Was impressed.

Having a real fear of spiders and having to fight your way through thick webs in the tomb and just knowing what was coming wasn't great right enough......

I hope not. Sons of Liberty didn't reach the level of 1 or 3 for me, whilst still being decent in spells.

I played through it last year and found it a lot, lot better than I ever, ever remembered.

Skyrim will probably be top as the most played and accessible. Damned casuals.

Great game but I liked Oblivion better. The setting, story, guilds were all better and it was a proper rpg too. Y'know, when class specialisation was still a thing and you had to build your levels carefully instead of just becoming master of everything.

Skyrim mods were far better though.

PIE AND BOVRIL 50 Greatest Games of All Time

6th place

Grand Theft Auto 5

Coming in next at number 6 is the most recent Rockstar classic Grand Theft Auto 5.

Released in 2013 GTA 5 was the seventh game in the Grand Theft series and I hope no one has an issue with the game landing such a high position. To be honest based on solely the original game it should've been a top 10 game anyway but the longevity of the game with the updates and online gameplay and options makes it a guaranteed classic. I've actually never completed the game despite owning it for both the 360 and Xbone but I simply won't trade it in - there is so much time still to be had playing through it and a lot of things still to do.

GTA 5, like all GTA games, comes with a playability amongst its vast area of San Andreas. God knows how many hours I've spent simply just killing civilians and getting chased from the police.

What made GTA 5 unique were the main characters. The player could choose between, and had to play as, Franklin, Michael and Trevor. Each character had their own unique traits:

Franklin - Gang banger with nods back to GTA San Andreas, he was hoping to move up in the criminal world and get out of the ghetto.

Michael - A retired bank robber and crook with a cheating wife and crazy kids. He will never fully get away from crime and gets caught up with Franklin. A nod back to Vice City perhaps with Michael

Trevor - One of my favourite gaming characters ever, I cannot do Trevor justice so will just remind you how we first met

GTA 5 did a great job of linking all the characters stories and missions together and with the additional people you come across in the game and the various links back to previous games there really is something for almost everyone.

As always GTA had the backdrop both graphically and sound-wise nailed down . The radio was great once again although I wasn't quite as entertained by it as previous years.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is still gaining more and more popularity and Facebook, Twitter etc are awash with videos every day with people playing the game and doing crazy stunts. It's 3 years old already but will continue to entertain players with its various updates for a long time to come I'm sure. Writing this post has given me the urge to go back and play it once again.

To date GTA 5 has shipped over 70 million copies and sold over $1 BILLION(!!) copies in its first 3 days of sales. It has blitzed almost all records and is rated by critics as almost the perfect game with most reviews getting very close to 10/10.

Pie and Bovril rated GTA 5 strongly too with 74 points and you voted it so strongly that the total number of votes don't even display on my Books app on IPhone, runs out of space at the end of the spreadsheet. Will edit post and update when on desktop.

Votes for GTA 5 were:

2 x 2nd place

1 x 3rd place

2 x 4th place

1 x 5th place

2 x 6th place

1 x 7th place

3 x 8th place

2 x 9th place

1 x 10th place

15 votes in all for GTA 5 - it is the most voted for game yet or our poll.

GTA V is an astonishing game, I absolutely loved it (although I couldn't get into it as much as Vice City or San Andreas). As mentioned above, Trevor is one of the greatest video game characters of all time, mad as heck and hilarious in parts too. Michael was pretty cool, even if he was Tony Soprano. I didn't care much for Franklin.

The missions were brilliant, especially the heists where you pulled everything together over six or seven episodes before going in for the big one. The last heist in particular was great fun and there was a real sense of achievement. Some superb music in there too, especially Old Love/New Love by Twin Shadow.

I've been replaying GTA V lately. I have to say, while it's clearly a fantastic game, I'm genuinely finding it a bit of a slog getting through it. As ever with Rockstar there are some superb characters, some of the big missions are extremely memorable and there's a good story behind it so I'm being picky, but on a second playthrough I'm just not finding it particularly exciting, even taking into account the option of playing through the missions in different ways.

Even with GTA IV, which took a fair bit of criticism for being too serious and not having enough emphasis on fun gameplay along with the serious story, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of going back a couple of years later to complete it again and felt it was a better game than I did when first playing it, but I'm not getting the same buzz going back to V that I have with every other GTA since Vice City.

Still, that's all a matter of taste and objectively I can't argue with those rating it so highly. I've also never played it online, which I realise adds a whole other dimension and may contribute to others loving it so much.
