The news this morning is full of stories about this being a big part of 'project brave'. You'd imagine this would end up with L2 a 12 team league with a split but then again will the colts teams be allowed promotion (or relegation) and how will it affect the highland and lowland playoff system......... lots of questions and very few answers for something that will help the OF and judging by the crowd numbers for colts games in the irn bru cup season, nobody else.

Two of them going into the Lowland League?

I'm not following the financial "benefit" theory here, i.e. that clubs motivation to ignore everything else would be the "bribe". (Clearly their £15,000 figure is 6 games x 250 tickets x £10, btw, and is the maximum - the other possible format envisaged produces £7,500).

Currently everyone play 36 games = 18 home games, all against proper clubs. Across the division as a whole in recent years the average attendance is about 500.

This proposal envisages playing 33 games. That means:
* 16-17 home games under normal arrangements (assuming Celtic 'B' and Rangers 'B' played were set opposite each other in the rota)
* 17-18 home games if 'B' teams only played away from home

Even if we assume £10 is a fair average of adults/concession, the "bribe" of 250 tickets only breaks-even if 250 people still attend. That's just to break-even, not deliver some meaningful increase.

Therefore clubs lose 1-2 home games outright, and lose £££ on 3-4 more if <250 are prepared to watch "B" teams. This also doesn't consider possible disillusionment/lower ST sales/etc.

Experience from the Challenge Cup indicates 250 may be very optimistic. If it was dressed-up as a "2-year trial" there'd be even more incentive to boycott, too.

Obviously that's the financial aspect, based on the article. There are many other issues, matters of principle or practicality... many covered before, but others new e.g.:
* surely any "transfer window only" rule could be totally undermined by triallists/development loans/emergency transfers/etc.
* playing everyone x3 is competitively imbalanced - it was got rid of in 1995 partly for that reason
* how could you justify not having "B" teams finishing positions count for promotion/relegation, yet their points + scores are counting in the records of other clubs?
* how on earth could "B" teams be exempt from relegation? They potentially do worse and finish bottom, but someone finishing 1-2 places higher goes down?!

It could be 38 games if they have the split which has been also mentioned not a fan of that one either.

It was 94 that the 3 times a season ended.

Edited to add.

No ones mentioned where the OF sides will play each other.

Don't Celtic use Cappielow and Rangers use Airdrie?

Celtic use Cappielow for some games, Rangers have been playing their games at their training ground and Ibrox this season, they used Forthbank last season.

Celtic used Airdrie for years before the Astro went down. They got bumped in favour of Rangers for a year, who then failed to deliver on various conditions, probably paying for it. Quelle suprise! Miraculously Celtic went back after that. Games were usually during the day midweek, but I think it was £2 to get in. It was a mixture of scouts and mammals and daddies that were there.

The supporters have no interest in youth development or how it is achieved. They understand two things winning trophies and beating each other, nothing else matters.

Eta I meant to write mammies, but mammals probably reflects them better.

Still no sensible suggestion on how this will improve youth development. Any player likely to succeed at a high club level or international level will need to be playing at a higher standard than League 2.

Being stuck in a boys team with one or two b-team standard players and playing against plumbers and joiners is going to do f**k all compared to the current loan system.

The whole thing is just an utterly idiotic concept, is the fact Spain do it and they won the World Cup the level of logic being applied here? Get Doncaster, Regan and the SFA to f**k. These clowns are destroying our game.

Would be as well expanding the championship to 12 and sticking them there if ‘youth development’ is the real agenda here. We all know it isn’t what’s driving this though.

I don't think it's the end of the world as some on here but if it is to happen it needs to be done correctly eg:

Colts sides start at the bottom of the Pyramid

It's not just limited to Old firm sides

The colt teams have 'defined' squads

They can only progress to a certain level, probably League 2 at the very maximum.

Parachuting them in at league 2 is a bad idea

We keep getting told by others that Scotland isn't large enough to support the current professional setup (Ann Budge being the latest in a long line).  If this is the case and we let these colts teams in and lets say all 12 top flight and 3 or 4 second tier want to enter "colt" teams, where do they all fit it.  Look forward to a league setup where we have:

SPFL Premiership

Celtic  v Rangers 'B'
Rangers 'D' v Aberdeen
Rangers  v Rangers 'C'
Aberdeen 'B' v Hamilton
Dundee v Dundee United 'B'
Dundee United v Celtic 'B'

etc. etc.

Aye, that is ridiculous. Dundee United can't get into the Premiership, so their B team has no chance...

Put them in the league with Sevco and Celtic and leave the rest of us in peace. They can have bigot fests all season and belt out their sectarian bile in their 4 team league. In what way will Colt teams jumping the queue encourage Juniors or Amateurs to try and join the Pyramid. Sorry linlithgow you could have joined at Tier 6 but as we’ve let half the SPFL have a second team you’ll need to join lower down. We need to chase Doncaster and Regan. Amazes me they’re in a job after Armageddon.

They could go for European status send one mob to the League of Ireland & the other to the Northern Irish League they may be prove to be more popular over there. As for Doncaster & Reagan if supporters had any say there would be a vote of no confidence & they would be out on their ears.

No-one will go. Note the complete absence of any of their supporters on this thread voicing opinion either way.

Rangers are so concerned that their youths/development squad get regular football that they’re not even playing in the development league this year. But yeah, let’s bend over and let them in the professional league set up.

Sooner there is a clear out in the powers that run our game the better.

I hate the thought of defending them but they have played a lot friendly games against English and European sides this season instead of the DL.  In a way I think that's not too bad an idea playing different sides instead of the same players they will have played against for years, wish they would stick to it instead of trying to get into league two!

Oh well, looks like Highland League / East Region juniors for me from now on, if all of this is actually true.

This season is the first in years I haven’t really got into because of work. But, before that, was a solid regular who paid at the gate so the club would get more £ over the course of the season, bought merchandise, etc etc- the same as all of us do.

Basically the authorities have decided that as leagues 1 & 2 attract around 6-9000 fans a week across all the games, they can happily throw us all off the boat.

I sincerely hope the “shitebag seven” in our league have plans for when the free money from the bigoted arsecheeks runs out. They might just be in for a shock at how few of us are left.

Very sad stuff indeed.
