Hillonearth
There's been a family of Canada geese nesting on a local pond, and a few days ago the parents decided to walk the goslings down the hill to the Clyde - must be about a mile. They had a human escort all the way down and pleased to report they made it unscathed. Makes a change from orange walks holding up traffic at this time of year - wish I'd seen this first hand.
The Mantis
We had a pair of Siskins visiting for a couple of weeks. Big deal for us as there's usually just the common stuff like Great Tits and Pigeons. I combined 2 images to get them sharp.
Alert Mongoose
We had bluetits nesting in the garden Bix and I was a but concerned that one of our cats would get them. Not out of the woods yet but the youngsters finally made their first appearance out the box last night. One of the dafties fell asleep on the bird feeder. Hedgecutter
Just back from a Forrest Gump style drive in which a quick jaunt up the road eventually led up to Troup Head, where I'd never actually been before (despite having been to Pennan and Gamrie either side of it multiple times). Pretty cool to see a bunch of these goofy f***ers just 5 mins walk from a car park (ie. no boat trip out to the likes of Bass Rock needed): Eta: find the razorbills cooler though. Spent a Sunday morning there in April, first visit. Got the place to myself. Bit of a trek from Midlothian, but worth staying over and visiting some of these other bits. When you hear all the English guys talking about Bempton cliffs in Yorkshire and how mobbed it gets, you appreciate what you've got. Mind you they've been flocking to Bempton to see an Albatross, but it's a nightmare, somebody was telling me last week. Billy Jean King
A wee Stonechat a couple of weeks ago in D&GNice. Another species that you used too see just a few times a year which have now exploded here on the Ayrshire coast. They are rivaling the Gold finches here for most successful species.
Stu
We have housemartins nesting in the eaves of the house. Today we heard loud chirping and thought one of them had managed to get into the loft - and as it continued all day we reckoned it had got stuck. Went up and found three baby sparrows and fairly sure I could hear one of their parents but couldn't see it. Not sure how they got in or if they know how to get out. Phoned the SSPCA and they said they should be OK but to give it a few days and get back in touch.

Billy Jean King
Amazing footage this morning on BBC of a group of Bee Eaters in Norfolk. Wonderful exotic looking birds for the UK
Melanius Mullarkey
Fucking magpies. Must have nests out the back as there was 8 in the garden yesterday. 6 young ones for sure. Lovely to look at but noisy fuckers. They seem to have scared off all the other wee birds as well which is annoying.

Train a squad of squirrels to take them out.

The little b*****ds stole a wooden finial off one of my upstairs windows. It had fallen off and I'd put it on the windowsill outside with a plan to put it back up. Little twat flew down, lifted it and away into the trees with it.
Rizzo
The magpies are quire handy to have in our garden as the racket they make alerts every bird in a 10 mile radius that there's a cat or fox about. Ditto to the lesser black backs that live on the roof.
