DAFC.
It'll be funny to see the Unionist media spin it as a loss for the Indy movement if SNP fail to get a majority, despite the fact there will most likely be more pro-Indy MSPs in Parliament compared to 2011 and 2016.

Nary a mention of a pro-independence majority, super or otherwise. Predictable. Don't worry. The SNP could win 75 seats and the Greens 10 seats and some unionists would claim it wasn't a "big enough" mandate for another referendum.

Popular Post Gordon EF
It'd be delicious to see the Greens body the Lib Dems down into fifth once again. Really open up a bit of a gap this time. Can anyone think of any other institution who've been humiliatingly pumped into 5th place this week? If, as I suspect, the SNP fall a few seats short of a majority, the Tories and the Unionist press will trumpet this from the hilltops as if it's VE day. Victory for them is the SNP failing to get a majority. They'll ignore the fact that it's virtually impossible to gain a majority at Holyrood, and they'll ignore the fact that there'll be a large pro-independence majority aloing with the Greens and Alba. All that counts, that has ever counted, is stopping the SNP majority.

If they fail to get this then it would be difficult to sell that Scotland wants a referendum.

Any sane minded person gives it to the Greens but for obvious reasons this cannot be publicly endorsed by SNP. Yes it will be a close run thing. No regional nuance, no actual credible case set out. The reality is quite clear then that the SNP would be happier with 65 seats for themselves and the rest of the Parliament being filled with Yoons, than having 75-80 pro-independence voices but 'only' 60 seats for themselves. For a party whose stated goal is an independent Scotland that is short-sighted nonsense. Edited May 5, 2021 by vikingTON

And the reasons for it have been pointed out elsewhere....having a pro-independence majority involving the Greens/Alba is a diluted majority, and will be utterly disregarded by Westminster. Only an SNP majority will be recognised and only an SNP majority will be a stepping stone towards another referendum. The Greens can win a doezen seats, but they carry little or no leverage, sadly.

If you think that Boris Johnson is going to be a good sport and roll over because the SNP have got 66 seats now rather than 63 then you're utterly delusional. Letting the Yoons set the benchmark uncontested is awfully convenient when it fits the SNP's desire for one-party rule.

This "Nicola will see it through" attitude is based on blind faith and nothing else. The SNP leadership has painted itself into a corner regarding the rules they have set themselves for another referendum. We now have those that unquestioningly follow every Sturgeon pronouncement parroting Theresa May's "Now is not the time" patter from a few years ago...you know that time when the SNP said they would hold a referendum to stop us getting dragged out of the EU.
