New clubs in the East of Scotland

Recommended Posts

Currently looking at 35 EoS teams next season and 40 East juniors.

The only clubs now outwith Fife/Perth & Kinross/Dundee/Angus:

Linlithgow Rose
Broxburn Athletic
Sauchie
Fauldhouse United
Bathgate Thistle
Whitburn
Pumpherston
Armadale Thistle
West Calder United
Harthill Royal
Livingston United
Stoneyburn

Then, you've only got ten Fife sides left.

St Andrews Utd also.

Rather a downbeat statement:

To be fair - unlike those who were proactive, wanted to go to better themselves and applied months ago, now the remaining teams are jumping to save their skin and avoid playing in a worse league. Never easy for travelling when you're at one extreme of the boundary, same with Jeanfield, but who knows, tier 7 might be regionalised in 2019/20.

Twelve months ago the East of Scotland Football League had 11 members, having lost one along the way, and let's be honest, apart from one or two none were capable of causing much trouble for larger clubs.

It has now almost completely consumed the East Region Scottish Junior Football Association south of the Tay.

Regardless of what happens from here or whether you think it's a good or bad thing, that's absolutely extraordinary, and possibly without precedent in non-league Scottish football since 1945.

With St. Andrews and Jeanfield on top of everything else today that makes 36 accepted or confirmed applications. For anyone doubting they'd go past 36 I think it's pretty clear they'll take pretty much everyone that meets the requirements of the EoS.

Think for the traditional clubs in the league especially they'd rather just deal with one season of transition and get to normal. Rather than face turning clubs down or deferring them leading to further hassle down the line.

The format isn't going to be ideal and potentially not equal, but remember only a couple of seasons ago the leagues were EoS Premier = 9 and Eos 1st = 8. They'll do whatever seemingly funny format to those on the outside, so long as it accomodates its membership.

Broxburn's already gone.

It's a hell of a lot of bespoke bags and defibrillators for the EoS to be giving out!

Was only counting clubs that have made a statement but yes it appears Broxburn are gone too.

I've been of the same mind as there has been similar rumours flying over Sauchie, Oakley and others. Not only has there been that post from the Reporter but the news from the Bo'ness meeting the other night was that Broxburn had been in touch to let them know they were applying. Which probably made Bo'ness' decision a little easier for them. I'm only taking Broxburn as fact on the basis of two fairly credible sources.

I was thinking if it does go to 3 sections and how impractical that can be for an overall champion. Instead of a convoluted playoff to determine the EoS champion, how about all 3 section champions and the SoS champion go into the LL playoffs.

EoSA v. EoSB Winner gets promoted.

EoSC vs. SoS Winner gets promoted.

Can only have one team go forward to the play-off from the EOS to play against SOS

If it goes to 40 clubs, maybe 4x10 makes more sense. Then the 4 champions can play in a group of 4 for the title with other teams playing in groups of 4 for classifications / qualifications for divisions the season after, giving all the clubs 24 games (18 league games + 6 in the 2nd stage). If there are any more than 40 this format can still be kept by simply making the groups slightly larger.

It would be for the greater good of the pyramid I feel that all applying clubs can be accepted, wether that’s 3 or 4 leagues if theres enough applications. The 1st season was always going to be the transition season so why not cater for all with maybe a bit more transition added.

It could make the following season a bit easier with a strong Premier Division in place with possible regional leagues underneath.

Got to have a champion!

It's senior football, not the pub leagues .
