Montrose Vs Clyde - Squeeky Bum Time

Recommended Posts

It's only a one leg playoff according to the SPFL website.

Further complicated by the fact that we play on different surfaces. To have a truly "neutral" game, we need a pitch which is half astroturf and half grass!

Aye, done by election until then.

Plus when Queen's Park joined in 1900 (direct into tier 1 btw!)... it was on condition they were exempt!

It was highly dodgy, and usually just protected the top division clubs as only they voted... indeed Clyde suffered particularly badly.

For example in 1904 the bottom pair won 10 & 8 out of 24 votes and comfortably survived. Also worth noting Aberdeen got 4 votes - despite playing in non-league football; Hamilton the champion got 2 votes; Clyde the runners-up got 0 votes.

Next year the top division was expanding by 2 clubs. Aberdeen (7th from 12 !) got 12 votes; the bottom pair got 11 & 10 votes; Falkirk the runners-up got 7 votes; Clyde the champions got 5 votes and weren't promoted while Aberdeen and Falkirk were .

Hopefully Bolo is going to see Big Marv to get his leg healed by the power of God so he can play this game and fucking destroy David Goodwillie.

Aside from that, I hope we can win this comfortably and go into the playoffs full of confidence.

Play it on black ash.

It'll sort out the real men from the cowards.

*On second thoughts this disadvantages Clyde.

Presumably such a playoff would have to take place on the Tuesday or Wednesday - not ideal preparation for the loser before facing Buckie or East Kilbride. Imagine you'd be talking somewhere like Meadowbank or Almondvale?

I recall a few years ago a playoff to avoid the relegation playoff in what was then the SFL First Division almost occurred between Morton and Clyde, IIRC. It would've been a 2-legged playoff under SFL rules.

EDIT: Interestingly there has not been any tie-break playoff in the Scottish League since 1914-15. On that occasion, when only points were considered - Cowdenbeath, Leith Athletic and St Bernards tied for the tier 2 title. Playoffs were arranged:

Saturday 10th April 1915 at Dunfermline ... Cowdenbeath 2-1 Leith Athletic
Saturday 17th April 1915 at Easter Road ... Leith Athletic 2-1 St Bernards
Saturday 24th April 1915 at Easter Road ... St Bernards 1-3 Cowdenbeath

Cowdenbeath 4pts, Leith Athletic 2pts, St Bernards 0pts

Some interesting stats you've posted there...

Can't play it in Belfast as they may be biased towards a team with "Rangers" in the name.

Can't play it in Wrexham either, since "Clyde" is a Britonic "Welsh" derived name.

What is the initiative? Free tickets for school kids?

Free tickets for anyone who participates in any of the LPCT programs, children and adults.

They could always play it at Solitude. Or Donegal Celtic Park...

Speaking of playoffs involving Clyde there's one from the League Cup in 1960.
Clyde and Hearts had same points, goals for, goals against.
Result ?
Clyde 2 Hearts 1

We had the same in the League Cup groups in the early 80s when we played and beat Meadowbank 1982 off the top of my head. It was a one off at CP think they tossed a coin for the venue, either that or there was probably a cat show or something on in the concourse at Meadowbank:lol:

1982-83... finished Cowdenbeath 3-0 Meadowbank Thistle.

Oddly enough that and the other cited above (Clyde v Hearts which was at Parkhead) are the only 2 instances in the history of the Scottish League Cup.

There was one instance in the Southern League Cup in 1945-46 which finished Ayr 1-0 Dundee United at Hampden.

There was one instance in the Summer Cup in 1963-64 which finished Hibs 3-1 Dunfermline at Tynecastle. It was only even necessary as Hearts, the section winners, withdrew.

With iain Campbell being sent off Saturday who will partner I would think pascazio at the heart of defence? Bolo and callum Mcdonald both injured I'm told, steeves would probably go back to left back leaving one centre half.
