The rumoured fee of 20m or so is rubbish. You're fucking loaded lads, if you're going to fling silly money about at least give us some if it. Miserable b*****ds.

Take it and run.

As good as Jota is, hes never joining a top club in a top 5 league IMO, so its unlikely you get Tierney-esque money for him offered if he turns down the Saudis.

Ach aye you're probably right. He'd maybe get there eventually (still unlikely mind) but wouldn't go directly from us.

It's similar from his point of view. He'd be bonkers to turn that down - he's not getting that type of money from anyone other than the top two or three clubs in England who would never buy him.

As always with these things a certain section of our fanbase who've yet to come to terms with our place in the footballing food chain(and that it isn't 1970 anymore) will throw the toys out the pram but there's no great injustice here. Fair play to Jota, he's been brilliant for us. Buying these players, them giving us CL football before moving on for a tidy profit is our aim as a club, and the only way we'll get anywhere near being the type of club we ultimately want to be.

Do you think he always wanted to ply his trade in Scotland, or might Celtic's money have something to do with that?

Benfica can match any salary we offer and we certainly aren’t paying him 10x what he was making there so yeah not quite sure money was the major motivator

Disappointed if we leave Jota but I've read he could earn just under £200k a week tax free in Saudi Arabia. A lot of players are going to find that difficult to turn down.

No FFP to worry about and bottomless pits of money. Even the elite Euro clubs can’t compete just now. Will be interesting to see how the big clubs change their transfer behaviour in the future

Aye, but Benfica were happy to sell him. He was a bit part player there struggling to make it in their first team so I doubt they were going to offer him what Celtic were.

That’s a shame. Find that surprising as he’s only 32. Hope it’s not injury that has made that decision.
Good luck to him.

Heard he’s got arthritis in his back but no idea If that’s the case.

If you get £20m, even taking away the £6m you paid for him, the 30% (£6m) to Benfica and say £2m in wages and signing on fee you are still making a profit of c.£6m on him. Not bad for a year.

I don't think we have any player on that sort of money, also the 30% will be on the profit not the full amount.

Crazy money, fair play.

He goes and gets loaded at a jiyners league and gets to be a show pony all his days.

They’ll always have the memories of that famous goal in the Bernabeu.

I'm not usually arsed about kits but what in the hell is this. Adidas must be conducting a social experiment to see if anyone will actually buy it.

Yeah very much happy to pass this by. They white badge kit that was teased was the one they should have went with this is too fussy and the black detailing is awful. It’s almost as if Adidas want their brand to be seen before the clubs.

Yeah, I imagine that Saudi money has absolutely nothing to do with that decision and he has always wanted to ply his trade in the Saudi League 🙄

Regardless, he is bored of playing for Celtic.  As any properly ambitious player from overseas who hasn't had to endure from infancy the lie of how 'massive' Celtic are would be after a year or two of predictably beating the same 11 teams again and again and again.  And that isn't a criticism of Celtic. Nothing they can do about it and not their fault. Just the way things are for a club that actually aren't very 'massive' at all.
