People used to blank out plates when selling cars to stop people from being able to check the history or stop criminals from using the plates on ringers. Wouldn't want a strongly worded letter from the information from the ICO now. Actually, assuming posters are taking and posting these pictures in their capacity as private citizens, there's a further grey area as to whether P&B would be covered by GDPR for publishing. Once it's on the internet who knows who will see it and why they might want to use it.
