Compare the awfulness of that strip with the perfect simplicity of the Broomfield photo circa 70/71 above. I realise it's a method of extracting money from long suffering fans but 'new kits' really are a sad thing.

He also scored a hat-trick in a second spell at Airdrie in 2001, in a 6-0 win against ICT, which remains our record league defeat.

I had a look at a few players in that Airdrieonians (1878-2002) team pic, and I hadn't heard of a Jonquin before erroneously spelt in the pic below...

Jonquin was never booked in his career (although he did receive a straight red on 286 occasions).

And what is the material that strip is made with!? It looks like a flag.

Has there been any other Jonquins in Scottish Football?

Look at all those seats at Meadowbank, who would have thunk it?

It was some climb up to the back rows, only to find them inch deep in guano.

Happy days, annoying the volunteer stewards by playing on the track, the long jump sand pit and climbing the trees opposite the stand. Oh to be 25 again.

I was at a budgie show under the stand once as well.

I won a 200m race there, running in the same lane as my hero Allan Wells had won a 200m in on the telly the week before, I was well chuffed.

I was there for athletics more than I was  for Sons games.

On this day in 1978 Dundee beat Rothes 5-4 in a pre-season friendly but looking at the other scores reminded me that I was in Clydebank for work so went to Kilbowie to watch Clydebank lose 0-1 to Watford. Luther Blissett was one of the subs for Watford but can’t recall if he came on. It was a cold dull night as was the game.

I was at the " Battle of the Saints", the Paisley variety won 1-0 courtesy of supersub Bobby Torrance.

Ted McDougall played up front for Southampton.

Today in 1948 the Olympic football was underway and GB beat Netherlands at Highbury in R1.

Matt Busby managed, and 7 of squad were Scots from QotS + QP (including Ronnie Simpson):

South Korea were a very new country- after the Japanese were defeated there'd been two zones of occupation, Northern and Southern, and when talks for reunification failed South Korea was formed in August 1948..

Of the venues only Selhurst Park, Craven Cottage and Dulwich Hamlet's Champion Hill are still used as Brentford, Spurs and Arsenal have moved into new grounds. Green Pond Road hosted its last football match in 1988 when Walthamstow Avenue merged with Ilford and Leytonstone. Lynn Road was Ilford's ground until 1977 when it was sold. There were insufficient funds for a new ground and they merged with Leytonstone.

Bankies archive doesn't resolve the Blisset mystery...Brian Pollard was the match winner, Sherwood would play in the 1984 FA Cup Final for them...
