The programme from the replay. Rangers won 1-0 after extra time in front of a crowd of over 133000. This is a British record for a midweek match.

There was in excess of 136,000 at the Celtic v Leeds European Cup semi Final at Hampden Park on a Wednesday in April 1970.

There's a wee alley in Paisley called Browns Lane.

As part of the prep for the "City of Culture" bid it was tarted yp with some murals, a couple of which were St. Mirren themed.

This is down one side, the 1987 cup winning team

Is Brown's Lane just off Shuttle Street?

The other side is "sullied" by this...un-fucking believable

Genuinely horrendous. Who thought that would be a good idea?

British transfer record-breaking Billy Steel makes his debut for Dundee against Aberdeen. He scored in a 2-0 win in front of a 30,000+ crowd (he's thought to have put an extra 10,000 on the gate alone). His spell at Dens saw Dundee reach Hampden finals three times in just over a year, winning the league cup twice and getting humped by Motherwell 4-0 in front of something like 136,000 fans. There's a chapter about him in the book Dundee Greats, some of the stories are excellent, including one where his team mates pulled him out of a pub, totally a couple of hours before another game against Aberdeen, one of the players was Doug Cowie who said something like "Honestly, he was half-gassed and tore Aberdeen apart that day".

Dundee's next successful period was the early 60s, winning the title in 61-62, a season which included a bizarre 5-1 win at Ibrox, and a mental comeback against Raith Rovers, with Dundee winning 5-4, after trailing 4-2 with 15 minutes to go. Alan Gilzean's goals were instrumental, few more than this late winner at Tannadice in April 1962.

Dundee qualified for the European Cup, making the semi-finals before being fucked out 5-2 by AC Milan over 2 legs. They were drawn against one of the favourites in the first round, FC Cologne. Dundee thumped them 8-1 at Dens in one of the biggest shocks in the competition's short history. The return leg was a deeply unpleasant affair, marred by crowd violence and the Cologne players targeting Dundee 'keeper Bert Slater, who had to go off with concussion, having to come back on with his head bandaged up as Cologne were looking likely to absolutely hammer Dundee. They won 4-0, and missed a penalty. The game ended with British Army soldiers escorting the Dundee players off under a hail of bottles, chairs and various other objects. Here's Slater getting a mouthful of studs from a Cologne forward.

Following that game, Dundee knocked out Sporting Lisbon 4-2, and then pished all over second favourites Anderlecht 6-2. The DABs of course also won a single league title, and got the semis of the European Cup losing out to Roma in a bitter semi-final. It's remarkable these days to think that Dundee's clubs have, between them got to two European Cup Semis, A UEFA final and another semi final. We'll never see those days again.

My old mum decided to come to Palmerston for the last home game of the 2012/13 season for some reason.  It was against East Fife.  It was the first football match she'd attended since the home leg of the Dundee/Anderlecht tie in 1963.

What was the "other semi final" referred to above?

I didn't realise that either and looked up the result from that year's competition.

There were 3 Scottish teams in the last 16 (Hibs, Dundee, and Rangers) and 2 in the quarter finals - (Dundee, and Rangers)

Changed days indeed.

I did not know that.

I see they lost narrowly to Leeds.

Yuh.

If ever a club demonstrates the potential pitfalls of the small leagues, it's Dundee. After their promotion from the B Division in 46/47 they had never seriously been threatened with relegation and in the 5 years before their relegation in 75/76 they had finished 5th, 5th, 5th, 5th, 6th, they won the League Cup in 72/73 and got to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in 71/72.

Recovering from that relegation was a big enough job anyway, but the shenanigans at Dens Park since have just compounded their fall from grace.

It was Leeds United that knocked out all 3 Scottish clubs that season and Kilmarnock in the semi final the season before. All the games in Scotland were draws.

I saw that and knew they had beaten us the year before (1967), as my dad often talked about these 2 games - still does.

It was around that time I  started to follow Leeds as well, mainly because they had so many Scottish players in their team.

Yeah, my dad's a Dundee fan and I knew they went down in the first season of the Premier division.  Dundee United survived narrowly and the clubs took very different paths in the following decade or so.

The first match I ever saw was Dundee drawing 2-2 at Palmerston in division 1, then the middle tier.  Soon after, we beat them 6-0 in the League Cup.  It's strange to think they were making significant European progress just ten years before.

Rangers (deceased) fans showing admirable restraint to some extreme goading at the 1980 Scottish Cup final, goading that amounted to getting beat 1-0.

The guy on the left clearly not giving a f**k about the fashion tips given to him by the Govan massiv.
