Popular Post Benjamin_Nevis
British transfer record-breaking Billy Steel makes his debut for Dundee against Aberdeen. He scored in a 2-0 win in front of a 30,000+ crowd (he's thought to have put an extra 10,000 on the gate alone). His spell at Dens saw Dundee reach Hampden finals three times in just over a year, winning the league cup twice and getting humped by Motherwell 4-0 in front of something like 136,000 fans. There's a chapter about him in the book Dundee Greats, some of the stories are excellent, including one where his team mates pulled him out of a pub, totally a couple of hours before another game against Aberdeen, one of the players was Doug Cowie who said something like "Honestly, he was half-gassed and tore Aberdeen apart that day". Dundee's next successful period was the early 60s, winning the title in 61-62, a season which included a bizarre 5-1 win at Ibrox, and a mental comeback against Raith Rovers, with Dundee winning 5-4, after trailing 4-2 with 15 minutes to go. Alan Gilzean's goals were instrumental, few more than this late winner at Tannadice in April 1962. Dundee qualified for the European Cup, making the semi-finals before being fucked out 5-2 by AC Milan over 2 legs. They were drawn against one of the favourites in the first round, FC Cologne. Dundee thumped them 8-1 at Dens in one of the biggest shocks in the competition's short history. The return leg was a deeply unpleasant affair, marred by crowd violence and the Cologne players targeting Dundee 'keeper Bert Slater, who had to go off with concussion, having to come back on with his head bandaged up as Cologne were looking likely to absolutely hammer Dundee. They won 4-0, and missed a penalty. The game ended with British Army soldiers escorting the Dundee players off under a hail of bottles, chairs and various other objects. Here's Slater getting a mouthful of studs from a Cologne forward. Following that game, Dundee knocked out Sporting Lisbon 4-2, and then pished all over second favourites Anderlecht 6-2. The DABs of course also won a single league title, and got the semis of the European Cup losing out to Roma in a bitter semi-final. It's remarkable these days to think that Dundee's clubs have, between them got to two European Cup Semis, A UEFA final and another semi final. We'll never see those days again.

Ivo den Bieman
My first ever Montrose game at long-vanished Boghead (a little-lamented dump, if memory serves). Montrose won 4-1 on cruise control and Sons manger Billy Lamont received sustained calls for his head throughout the game.
Ranaldo Bairn
In about 1985 or 1986 me and my pals in S2 or thereabouts at Culloden Academy were so enamoured by the cultured Robert Crampsey and his Saturday afternoon musings that we convened at my friend's house and inaugurated the BCFC, the "Bob Crampsey Fan Club". We had a newsletter (print run: 5; no. of issues: 2) and wrote a letter to Mr Crampsey informing him of our existence and enclosing a free copy of the newsletter. He took the time to pen a gracious letter in response and wishing us well. Happy, happy days. To this day, when they go to TFS for a goal update, I still think it's going to be "Bill Moulds at Brockville" reporting back.

If I remember rightly that was the first match to be played after the King Street End was fenced off and bench seated to become the Paddock. I was sitting right next to one of the pillars and I can make out my outline just after Joey’s penalty winner. That sort of stuff brings tears to my eyes!
