Aberdeen fans and others what do you think of the Aberdeen Fc new stadium proposal? Is it good for fans? Will Aberdeen lose some of their identity?

Why don't you ask them in this thread which has ALMOST 2 AND A HALF THOUSAND POSTS IN IT.

Tbf this appears to be because many Edinburgh jobbies (excluding myself as an Edinburgh resident) seem keen to opine on this topic without much info whatsoever.

The topic of "which club is bigger?" or the topic of Stuart Milne getting away the kind of Straiton/Hermiston Gait caper that various Boards were unable to do in Edinburgh?

Assuming that the appeal is unsuccessful, how long before work starts on this, and when do Aberdeen plan to have things up and running? I'm thinking 2 years would surely be enough time once they've started? Or is that silly thinking?

Milne did an interview yesterday stating that assuming that Holyrood okays it quickly and any legal challenges are dealt with quickly, work on phase 1 (training facilities) could begin in the summer with a view to being finished by summer '19. The Stadium itself, I would think summer '21 is a more realistic target.

I'm not a hearts fan.  But the fact is thousands more pay to watch them every week than Aberdeen.  They're obviously the bigger club.

You've also won more European trophies than PSG or man city but that doesn't make you a bigger club.

Newcastle and Sunderland get big crowds but there still less successful than say chelsea

Dinna encourage him, min. A fan of an irrelevant club that is smaller and less successful than Aberdeen, Hearts & Hibs. By his own argument his club are smaller than Lincoln City cuz they get better crowds. smh

Incorrect.

Pit-fhodraidh: the land by the wood.

Indeed. However, talking about football grounds, dung heaps and Hearts, Tynecastle was the place that was genuinely a steaming pile of shite:

Agree with this and I feel it's something I see at ICT. There's likely a whole load of other reasons for it but with Inverness the majority of fans just rock up at the stadium, watch the game then go home. They don't really spend any time in town before the game because it's a bit of a pain to get to the ground from the city centre. Most of the time you wouldn't even know if ICT are playing on a Saturday because the town doesn't look or feel any different. Barely any colours on show.

Contrast that to the likes of Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen right now you know when there is a match on. Easter Road and Gorgie have loads of folk milling about before a game, heading into pubs and bars, getting something to eat from the nearby chippy, there's just a bit of a buzz around the area when these teams are at home and having a ground in or very close to the city centre is a big factor in that.

Obviously it's unlikely to affect me personally for a long time as my team are howling but if I was to find myself heading to this new ground I wouldn't be bothering heading into town before it and I'd imagine a lot of fans, home and away, will skip any festivities in the city centre and just head straight to stadium, much like ICT fans do just now. At least the nearby-ish Tesco would do a good trade in folk sitting outside with carry outs killing time before KO.

Reminds me of McDiarmid and it's supermarket. Middle of nowhere. Although, Westfield for Falkirk is much the same.

I wouldn't say complete & utter fantasy, but it's not far off.

The Aberdeen Crossrail project for rail improvements over the next 12 years should start to come into the light a bit more this year, with the doubling of track between Aberdeen and Inverurie, increased services and a couple of additional stations, think to be completed sometime in 2019.

After that additional stations within Aberdeen are being proposed and a study was done last year to re-lay track between Dyce & Ellon.

A spur coming off between Bucksburn and Dyce could allow the new AECC, Kingswells, Westhill & the new stadium to be accessed via rail. Cost would be huge yes, but there'd be some justification to gain commuters from Kingswells/Westhill, folk attending events at the stadium & AECC . Could add shuttle busses between the AECC and airport that rail users would utilise.

If it is ever going to happen, it would have to be during the time that this rail project is being worked on.

Potentially they could also lay track on the old north deeside route, and link Peterculter to Westhill, and form a big loop connecting Union Square > RGU > Cults > Bieldside > Milltimber > Peterculter > Westhill > Kingsford> Prime 4 > Kingswells > Dyce > Bucksburn > Northfield > Tillydrone > UoA > Kittybrewster. I think it would likely have to be an electrified route however. It also seems a bit too forward thinking for the city of Aberdeen.

Fascinating

When was that from?

I’m assuming that the depot will have been behind the police station which served as the ticket office and club shop for a long time

It was levelled as part of the redevelopment but you can see it on the left here
