Purely based on budget we should be expecting to compete with QOS, Raith, Arbroath, Hamilton and Morton, so no seventh isn’t a decent season.

There is no reality required to expect better than seventh, surely!

I never expect only hope, if i "expected" I'd be at Ibrox or Parkhead on a Saturday.

Maybe we should be more expectant... instead of accepting shite managerial appointments and nothing but short termism.

Why would we possibly not be expecting us to compete with clubs around our size, I’m not even mentioning the likes of Partick, Inverness etc.

We are performing better in recent weeks and players are playing with more confidence. So the squad may not be as bad as first thought.
Baird isn’t giving away a goal a game for instance.
Afolabi coming back, and playing in this team may be better. The whole staff almost got a reset a month ago. We paid for a top 4 team so hopefully Duffy can get it playing like one.

my guess over the next 4 games will be

Partick - Lose

QOTS - win

Arbroath - draw

Kilmarnock - win

I think the club doesn’t really know which way to turn at the moment.  Go for a rookie appointment, when we know rookie appointments haven’t served us especially well over the years?  Go for an out of work type like Hughes who’s CV is inevitably a mixed bag?  Stick with a caretaker manager who has steadied the ship and delivered 3 decent results but surely can’t be viewed as a long term solution?

In theory I agree, but we all know it can go the other way and you can end up stuck in League 1 like a Falkirk or an Airdrie, so while I obviously want us to be as good as we can be, I'm honestly happy enough with where we are at the moment and just hope that Smith can build the whole club up which will then with any luck take the team with it and also add to our support.

Rome wasn't built in a day (apart from in the weetabix advert) and I think we can all honestly agree that the club is beginning to move forward after decades of being stuck in the doldrums, so at the moment I just think we need to be a little more patient as things are definitely moving in the right direction.

We could draw all 4 games and remain unbeaten (4 points).

I would much rather beat Partick and Them and lose the other 2 (6 points).

Winning those 2 and drawing the others would be pretty good going (8 points)

Win all 4 (12 points) and Duffy is getting his own custom made flag!

I see the BBC Scotland channel has announced another couple of live games between now and Christmas. Neither involve us. They seem to have cut down on the amount of championship games they’re showing for some reason.

As for Duffy, we could have appointed better, we could have appointed worse. Seems we’re going for a season of championship stability and not a lot else

I reckon we have a similar/bigger budget than Arbroath, QOS, Morton and Raith. There is no reason why we shouldn’t be targeting the promotion playoffs. The league, this year is particular is very tight with no team looking like they are going to run away with  At the moment Killie and ICT look certainties for two of the top 4 positions however there is no reason why we shouldn’t be looking to sneak in there.

On the appointment of Duffy, it’s a pretty solid but unspectacular choice imo. I don’t know the situation with Yogi or McCann but I’d be really disappointed if the question wasn’t at least asked. At least it’s only a deal till the end of the season and we can relook at the situation at the end of the season (or sooner if things start going pear shaped again).

I can’t help thinking part of the problem is the unusually large coaching team brought in by Hopkin.  Presumably a Hughes or a McCann would want their own coaches meaning we’d presumably have to pay off Duffy, Timmons and Joyce (I think Stillie was already there?).  Given that we’ve likely already had to come up with a significant 5 figure pay off for Hopkin that could really start to get expensive for us.

Can tell from the party shirt that he's not going straight home after.

Hopkin fucked off on his own so surely we never paid him anything?

Maybe did a deal, publicly say I quit and I'll leave with less/none of the remainder of my contract and my professional record of not getting a club relegated or sacked.

Smith said he quit and they had a grown up conversation........he then went on to explain how he definitely didn't quit.

The interview Smith did with Graham Spiers seemed to make it fairly clear he was asked to resign or else be sacked.  We definitely paid him something, but who knows how much.

Big Brian Reid relegated Hoppy.

Smith seemed to suggest that Hopkin heard the chanting at the Raith game, spat his dummy out and told us to stick it. I don’t believe for one minute Smith was going to sack him any time soon.

Can only suggest you listen to the interview.  Lots of face saving all round, but the difference between sacking someone and asking them to leave is pretty slim.
