Felt for the boy young in the middle of the park. He was always wanting the ball and trying to get the team up the pitch.

I said at half time that he was our one bright spark. He definitely gets around the park and offers himself. I suspect he received pretty much every throw in we had while he was on the park

I could type up a big post about everything that was wrong today but it's all so familiar and I just can't be arsed.

Proper scunnered. We better hope QP or Arbroath remain shiter than us. Otherwise this bunch look doomed.

We don't have a manager though. Our head coach reports into Mathie

What Bullen chooses to call himself is irrelevant. Mathie is not a DOF. On every single occasion when he's had the opportunity to clarify his position he's made it clear that he is not involved in matchday activities. Mathie is ultimately responsible for managing Bullen (and the dozens of other playing-related staff) but not directly for any of the above listed activities (coaching, team selection, tactics, game management, recruitment and fitness). This is analogous to your Daniel Levys or Leanne Dempsters or Ed Woodwards. It is not difficult to understand. Now ultimately, if all this goes to shit, then Mathie (as the man keeping Bullen in a job) is ultimately responsible, but he is not picking players or formations or drawing up transfer options himself and nor should he. That is not a solution.

Not a good scenario having manager going into last 6 months of his contract. Given his family are based so far away and doesn't suit for them to relocate to near Ayr doesn't help either. If there was real commitment from both sides I would have thought an extension would have been on the table after finishing 2nd last season even despite awful show in play off.  Maybe then there would have been a bit more momentum, players choosing between us and other clubs at least see the manager is contracted beyond this year after a successful league campaign so get on board with that.

It's not really clear what remit is on authority he has at the club. Is there any coaches that have come in that were clearly his choice. Goalkeeping coach change sadly appears to be big downgrade. Signings also not clear how much say he has on this, Given his long standing association with Sheff Wed it is a bit strange he hasn't maybe brought in someone from there. Are the young players from down south players he knows well from coaching his teams against in reserve or youth football.

His remit on signings aside I'm not really sure we have seen significant improvement in players that he has coached. He doesn't have faith to give academy lads a run yet won't loan the ones on the edge of the team out.

It just feels like both he and Mathie are stuck on their positions. Bullen had some success in the league position last year but clearly it has gone downhill. Mathie concentrating on longer term club infrastructure vision stuff when he talks, even mentions we have probably a top 5 budget so there is expectation we should be competing in that sort of area with performances close to that. I can't recall his really mentioning Lee by name recently or really giving him backing in last few months. It was his appointment. I mean 2 years is about average for a manager these days we have some positives in that time so I don't think we need to call it massive mistake in making appointment but its not working out and things are dragging on. Dare say Bullen knows he won't get another extension and given commitment to move away from his family will feel he is due is contract.

A big concern this year is apathy I don't get to many home games these days living in Dundee now but from when I have been and from footage and comments read the atmosphere at Somerset is just very quiet not even angry just apathy. Maybe there is anger put tempered by what the club is doing off the pitch. I think a change is good for everyone now though. Bullen while it wasn't pretty did us 2nd place for first time in 20 odd years so hopefully that is enough to put him in the frame for a gig at club at maybe conference level nearer his family. 2 years in your first gig is respectable these days.  Heck club and him can shake hands and use the family thing as the reason and they need someone they can bring in  for beyond this season. Lets not drag this out, all the best Lee and cheers for your giving your time but we all need to move on.

That today was a team that's chucked it and got no interest of working under Bullen anymore.

The first half today was the same passive shit as Saturday but difference at the weekend was there was a reaction in the 2nd half, today there was f**k all...

Genuinely as low as I've felt for a long time watching Ayr. Not one single bright spark. An utterly disgraceful afternoon and I hope those in power are having a good look at themselves.

Aye, I'm really worried that the board attempt to tough this out. There are vibes of Roberts finishing 4th and big Lachlan puting his fingers in his ears as he renewed his contract.

Hopefully I'll calm down but I genuinely can't be fucked with Saturday.

Could go on a double page rant about what’s going wrong/who to blame, but to be honest, I’ve just lost complete interest now. Mathie living in his own wee world shouting about getting premiership ready etc, Bullen not having a clue about what to do week after week with the duds we’ve got from Mathie and Glendinning and Smith wondering what’s happening with all the money being chucked at Mathies vanity project. Saturday will be a 3rd home game in a row I won’t bother with even though I’ve got a season ticket. It’s just depressing knowing another defeat will be on the cards and that fraud of a manager won’t even be under threat of the sack.

Even if bulldug goes .what a fucking job the next guy has got .

There are about 5 / 6 players in the whole team good enough fir this level the other young lads have never had a run of games to see if they are good enough or not  but we would never put them out on loan .then you have staff members like sports scientists ,nutritionists  a club our size do not need .there is a lot of good things happening at this club at the minute but we are making a complete shitshow of the playing side .can't imagine how catastrophic getting relegated for the whole " premiership " plan would be .

With 6 months to go on Bullens contract and his family still down south with no sign of moving up here I think it’s a done deal by at least the summer. Why are we waiting to move on? Smith, surely, sees the writing on the wall. By all accounts Bullen is a lovely guy but Ayr United is not a charity. Unless you are the opposition.

We were talking about that today, how can we even plan for next year when we know he’s not staying. If he was he would have signed an extension by now, makes the current situation even more mental that he’s not even under threat.

He's on loan from Wycombe. We basically lost our three centre midfielders at the start of the season and had to panic-sign 3 replacements. He's (literally) young and far, far from being the problem in the current situation.

Signed on loan from Wycombe when Murdoch and Dempsey got injured earlier in the season. He'd only had 8 senior appearances by the age of 23 before coming to Ayr but I think he's been one of our best players this season along with Dowds, Murphy and Chalmers. I thought his loan expired on 1st January so we must have extended it.
