Does Scotland get the governments it votes for in general elections?

It contributes to the overall picture of who wins the election.

This is because Scotland is smaller than the rest of the UK.

7 Million people don't get to decide the government of a country with a population of 66 Million.

That'll be a no then. So you're not a fan of democracy.

Scotland has not voted for a right wing or centrist party for 100+ years.

Most people would agree that the SNP are centrist. Scotland voted Tory for most of the 1950s.

Was a complete guess.

That is surprising, I wonder what the political climate was back then.

I do believe Scotland could be an independent country, just think the price to achieve independence is not worth it.

That is singularly the most depressing point of view I've heard in some time.

In the last general election Scotland voted SNP and got a Conservative government. Is that democracy?

Scotland contributed 13 seats of that Conservative 'government'.

Yes that is democracy.

You do realise the SNP will never ever win a UK general election?

Very low unemployment and a rapid increase in real wages after a low base from post WW2 recovery. And not reversing the radical socialism of the Atlee Government like forming the NHS.

It was also the height of anti-Soviet paranoia. And society was much more socially conservative then. People deferred to their superiors. Finally, the Conservatives were seen as the party of the union. Luckily we've moved on from those days.

We haven't voted for them since the Suez atrocity. Should have left then in disgust.

Likely to increase taxes.
Very high chance Scotland would elect a left wing party post independence and I believe it would become evident that the first 5-10 years would require a higher influx of cash to get the whole thing up and running. There will be a lot of new departments needing created post independence.
After the transitional period Scotland will be fine, reason I don't want independence is because I don't fancy going through a transitional period at all.

So basically you are not in support of short term loss over long term gain? I think this is incredibly poor. You’ve said yourself that we are capable of being an independent country but you’re not willing to ride out the inevitable bumps along the way and instead remain a part of this farcical and failing Union. Show some guts, man. Nobody said it’s going to be easy but the prize is there and if we ride out the initial teething problems we will become more prosperous. Maybe the next generation will be more benefiting of it, but somebody’s got to stand up and take the plunge. And I think to say No even though you know there’s far more at stake than a few years of hardship, if you can even call it that, makes you a bit of a shitebag.
