GordonD
BBC running trailers for this forthcoming series. Looks good - at least for once it's actually set in the time and place of the original book, not contemporary America. And it doesn't have Tom fucking Cruise in it.
Romeo
the tom Cruise war of the worlds was a great movie. Vastly underrated. Saw this trailer though, looks decent.

This new version looks great, though.
Archie McSquackle
It's a story I'm surprised hasn't been attempted more often although I was distinctly underwhelmed by the ending when I read the book many moons ago. Any adaptation is saddled with the ending but I would still feel cheated if they tried to improve on it.

Trackdaybob
A long time ago but I too enjoyed the Tom Cruise film version. I'm eagerly awaiting this but it'll lack something without Richard Burton narrating
Jason King
Its been online for weeks, its ruddy terrible. Its far more Woke of the Worlds than actual War of the Worlds.
NotThePars
Enjoyed the first episode. Good atmosphere around the whole thing. I'm unapologetically a fan of the Tom Cruise one as well though.

welshbairn
Has there ever been a film where an idiot stalling an escape from certain death to save a fucking dog doesn't come out of it just fine, with Fido yelping happily? Quite enjoyed the steampunk/alt history feel of it though. Tom Cruise version though..

Minutes before he had told his ladyfriend to leave the maid; 'she is dead' he cried despite him standing 15 feet away and not being a medic. Social commentary? mmm. The Tom Cruise version... excellent in my opinion.
Savage Henry
Just settling down to episode one now. It looks incredible. FWIW HG Wells would have been regarded as woke by contemporaneous standards. I’m quite glad they’ve kept that in. Edit: Quite liked the Tom Cruise version too. But the Orson Welles radio play, to this day, remains a masterpiece of art.
Silverton End
Thought episode 1 was ok, George not getting on the horse with Amy was pretty lame though. I do hope Bobby Carlyle is ok
invergowrie arab
Binned this after one episode. Utter shite. Why on earth is some spare eastenders plot about someone signing divorce papers the lead story with robot martians the background?
welshbairn
Well disappointed by the second episode after enjoying the first. Just tell the fucking story instead of jumping all over the place in the timeline. Edited November 25, 2019 by welshbairn

peasy23
Well disappointed by the second episode after enjoying the first. Just tell the fucking story instead of jumping all over the place in the timeline. Thought the first episode was a little bit slow, but was ok, and thought they had done a good job with the look and the effects. Episode 2 was a shambles though with the timeline all over the place. I was really looking forward to this but I'm afraid it's gone a bit meh.
