Stopped communist advance which think was objective, so yes

Open to being corrected, not read wikipedia on it, yet

You are half right.  The North invaded the South and captured everything but an area near Pusan.  After the Inchon offensive they were pushed back.  Then the UN forces (or more precisely General MacArthur) kept going and almost captured all of the North.  The Chinese did not like this so they intervened and pushed them back so the current border is roughly similar to where it was before the war.

It also resulted in a comedy film and a tv comedy series about the war that last three or four times longer than the war itself.

There's a simple test to see who won the Vietnam war.  What is Saigon called now?

America has also clearly lost in Afganistan; over 18 years later, $6 trillion and 5000 casualties and the Taliban still control half the country and can mount attacks in the centre of Kabul any time they want.  Unless the objective wasn't to get rid of them in the first place and that was just a pretence for invasion.

The initial invasion conflict was a piss take, almost walkover

An occupation is very different though admittedly

Of course it was because they're not fighting a state or an army and an air force and navy.  But their stated aim was to get rid of the Taliban.  Its almost twenty years now and the Taliban still control half the country.

Religious fanatics are hard to keep down

They undoubtedly won the initial conflict when the Taliban were in government

A tactical retreat was about it. The central government in Kabul never had much sway, as every other invader found out.

Protests in Iran.  That small handed shit gibbon is going to ass fumble his way into an Iranian uprising isn’t he?  We’ll never hear the end of this!   It’s going to be like that guy on here who claims he shagged Hayden Panettiere, but on a global scale.

What was that one?

When they tried to annex Canada.

At one stage, American forces occupied York (present day Toronto).

At another stage, British forces occupied Washington DC.  Apparently it is a myth that the White House is white because British forces painted it as a surrender colour.

All happened around the same time as the British Empire was also fighting Napoleon (who was defeated and exiled to St Helena) so tends to be overlooked in history lessons here.

I thought they burnt it down to teach them a lesson, then headed down to Florida for a bit of sun and got confused when the French and locals started fighting each other and buggered off. Could be wrong..

And to this day there is still a large US military contingent in South Korea which the Koreans contributes towards to the tune of many millions of dollars, many South Koreans resent this financial outlay.

Seoul's Itaewon area with many US style import stores and restaurants caters mostly for the service people.

Didn't France and Spain have a few skirmishes over Florida?

Protests in several major Iranian cities against the government following the admission that they downed the Ukrainian aircraft. Balls of concrete on the protesters given what’s happened to previous protesters.

Wait, are you implying that @Poet of the Macabre did end up shagging Hayden Thingmebob after pretending to on here?

I'm still not sure who she is, by the way, other than the wife of that big boxer laddie who looks like he'd murder the piss out of anyone who shagged his wife.

CNN reporting that Iran gave Iraq (and therefore US) two and a half hour's notice of which bases were to be hit before launching their missiles, which explains why no casualties and why Trump was able to say everything was ok before any assessment could be made.

Radio intercepts and satellite imagery showed the Iranian shooting down of the airliner within minutes (radio intercepts of operators saying the Farsi equivalent of "Oh shit").

Open demonstrations in Iran against the regime - as said earlier in this thread, incredibly brave considering hundreds were slaughtered in the streets for protesting recently. Trump's tweet in support is the most "liked" tweet ever inside Iran.

An Iranian female Olympic athlete has defected, saying she "didn't want to sit at the table of hypocrisy, lies, injustice and flattery" and that she did not want to be complicit with the regime's "corruption and lies." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/irans-olympic-medalist-kimia-alizadeh-says-shes-defected/ar-BBYRYCo?ocid=spartandhp

I think two things have happened - America has killed a major regime leader who was actively involved in killing Americans and moved significant forces into the Gulf to make it clear they can, and will, respond with overwhelming force if Iran over-reacts. Iran has responded with a militarily insignificant missile strike that was purely to please their own supporters. Should have been end of story but then we have the shooting down of an Iranian airliner and the Iranian regime lied through it's teeth then was caught out when the truth came out so quickly. A repressed population may have been given the trigger to rise up against this pretty awful regime.

Interesting times.

Just one thing, Soleimani was not actively involved in killing Americans.  That's a simple lie on the same scale as WMD.  There's very little evidence of that at all.  Its just a lie.  They have some devices which came from Iran, that's about it.
