pandarilla
If that's the case, there should be a public outcry, and people brought to account. There won't be, of course, and no doubt any (opposition) politician raising this will be howled down as a "traitor". Were the devolved administrations appraised of this simulation and its findings? If so, do they not bear some responsibility for the fiasco? If they weren't appraised of the findings, why not? It needs to be a key element of the next election campaign. The Labour Party (and others) don't want to be seen to be too critical whilst we're still going through this but they better be stockpiling this stuff for later. There were clearly issues that were ignored in terms of preparation, and when you add that to the austerity cutbacks it's surely going to be a major election issue. The care homes situation fits into the long term issues one as well, but the last Labour government hardly covered themselves in glory either so less likely to be an election issue. The lack of a fully funded public service of care is a disgrace. Privatisation always fucks over those at the bottom, and when something like this happens the problem is magnified.

I was walking up the queue and he pulled two barriers apart and squeeze through to get ahead of me. Then he started making an issue again inside the store. Shat it.

I can understand that, but how long do you wait? Did they not used to be state owned/funded, or am I just imagining it? Maybe they're a bit like the so called privatised railways which cost the taxpayer a fortune. Both the points you mention should be asked though. 31 minutes ago, bendan said: Shouldn't they also be doing their own appraisals of the preparedness of the devolved NHS? From what I can see pandemic planning is not devolved. Obviously such an occurrence has a huge impact on health, which is a devolved matter, but also goes way beyond that. I think Jacksgranda’s point is more relevant. Were they involved, were they appraised of the findings, if not why not?

Primary schools opening (under pretty strict conditions - and voluntary iirc), businesses starting to open. Masks mandatory on public transport, in shops etc. First sign of another spike they'll be locking back down again. If anything our lockdown will be getting extendedIn the short term, i agree. But if they're right, that allows nurseries and primary schools to almost reopen as normal, with staff following social distancing between themselves. It's a big 'if' though - but time will tell.

Some people need to be shown a poster - "This is a Socialist. This is Tony Blair. Can't tell the difference? Then you don't deserve a vote, you fucking simpleton. Away and watch X-factor and don't come whining when you're poor, ill or old." Might not win many votes, but by Odin's Beard I've been holding it back too long.
