The risk of serious infection is so minimal to that group - unless you have a serious pre-existing condition or are a massive fatty - that it is not worth taking into account on an everyday basis. You'd be as well worrying about getting run over by a bus. The granny-killer line at least has a semblance of seems legit to it by comparison, but last time I checked it was still the job of the government and not individual behaviour to keep vulnerable health categories safe. If they weren't such utter shitebags then they'd just punt everyone over 50 into shielding right now but instead it is going to be more dogshit 'sacrifices' all round instead. Quite agree. "Long Covid" - FFS.
Michael W
Why are students going to be allowed on campus if there's such worry about the return of universities? Absolutely no reason at all their lectures can't be delivered remotely.

Top thinking, send 32% of the workforce home, 10 million people, lock them up and see the economy boom. There are many practical subjects that don't work on a lecture-tutorial-essay-exam cycle. Having students in on a reduced basis for focused work is a much better option to have but I think that's fairly high up the list of activities that could get binned. It's almost as if you haven't paid attention to the fact that WFH has already been the default option in Scotland for six months and folk were punted into shielding for three while being replaced no bother. So all this actually means in practice is no more completely unnecessary and risky restaurant or pub trips for vulnerable groups. An entirely sensible, fact-based response for a better Scotland then. The only people who were shielded in Scotland were chosen for medical reasons, not age. The majority of workers aren't in office jobs that they can do just as easily from the sofa.

ICTChris
You used to be able to just click on the number of posts in any thread and it'd tell you who'd made the most posts. now we have to get this creepy Hibbee to trawl through all our posts, no doubt selling them to the highest bidder.

A lot of them are though and there will be plenty of younger and healthier people who can take up the slack this autumn: not least all those punted out of hospitality or live industry jobs because we're still pretending that Everyone Is At Equal Risk.

Nice to see the toothless Tory moving onto the reversal of age discrimination laws now that he is done with targeting Scotlands families for unemployment and poverty.

Marshmallo
It seems daft to me that The Science allows children aged 4-17 to be shoved into schools risk free with no distancing and zero transmission, but we can't take an age based approach to other activities when there is a clear increased risk for the elderly should they catch the virus.
Todd_is_God
Interesting grid, given the reluctance to allow fans to enter stadia. Hospitality venues in general should be on here IMO -
D.A.F.C
Lockdown light for uk next week imo. Work, schools, pubs for meals and that’s it. Can’t say I’m surprised, virus didn’t go anywhere and was just suppressed. Same as France and Spain.

Just goes to show that it's not just on p&b you find people who seem to consider themselves more knowledgeable than people who have studied epidemiology for their entire lives. They came up with a reasonable model, but it only worked for perfectly spherical students of constant density in a vacuum.
